My Elite and a few other Panny plasmas are still going strong. When my Elite finally retires for good I will replace it with an 85" OLED. By then those beasts should be significantly less than the current prices they're selling for.

Look, man. You're a good guy, and your heart is in the right place, but don't let them know you're ready for them. There's some crazy muthaf****s out there that will knock on your door, with a crowbar in their hands, after going out shopping and finding nothing anywhere near you plasmas. They're easy to spot with all their teeth knocked out from salesmen after their wallets, and going up and down the street trying to find a plasma. I know you're ready to go down in a blaze of glory, but don't let them sneak up on you. I feel the same way about my Kuro 151, but I've had some close calls, and I won't answer the door without my sh** locked and loaded, even for Jehovah's Witnesses. They're actually the worst, especially the old ladies. They're not out for any pleasant chat. They want that plasma. You don't even need to fire a warning shot, in most cases. Just the look in your eyes - and a muttered, "Damn right it's loaded" - usually does the job. Let me know when that happens, since they might show up at my house next. They're aren't easily discouraged. Voice of experience here. If necessary, sleep with one eye open, and a dagger between your teeth, and take no prisoners. If it gets too rough, call me for backup. I'm used to this nonsense. Good luck, man. |

I'm replacing a crappy 46" LCD I've had since the dawn of 1080p. I really don't want another LCD/LED. Mild interest in 4k but not sure I'll benefit from it for some time. Would like OLED but I'm not working with a big budget and I'd like to see the tech improved/perfected.
What do think of the LG 60PB6650? It's got a good price point $800. I've always wanted a plasma and although this isn't the best one of the last couple years, I think it will be a huge upgrade from my set and give me what I want. |

It going to be a long time before a 4K 85 inch OLED set is affordable.

Bought one a few months ago, dell had it at $700 with a $125 gift card at the time. I have been extremely pleased for the quality at the price/size ratio. There's a minor issue that most panels in the line show a bit of pink-blooming when the entire screen is filled with white, but this isn't really much of an issue since you don't run into this scenario much in film/tv.

Last I saw of oled the motion was still a deal breaker for me and from what I understand it has issues as it ages still. Meaning the tech is still need of some maturing. I have not seen the latest sets though, which wouldn't invalidate my statement as if they have fixed the issues I had that would make me so very happy.

I guess we will all have to transition eventually. I have moved all of my gaming systems from my Panny Plasma and only watch sports at my bar tv (sammy plasma) in an effort to lengthen their lifespan.
Every so often I go to my AV store and check out what's doing, but have seen nothing to get me wanting to up grade my old ass plasma |

Dolby vision and Sony collaboration for 4K bluray, sounds great?!? And my enthusiasm for 4K has just dwindled again. Another standard to consider whist purchasing. Looks like a few years until the dust settles and there is A standard for 4K.http://www.whathifi.com/news/sony-an...ource=20150914 |

Some plasma owners when it is time to upgrade are going to purchase a high-end 4K ceiling mounted projector. Other plasma owners will purchase a 4K OLED display. When the native 4K Blu-ray format launches in 2016 then more people will be interested in a 4K display with absolute black levels. 2018+ is the time I am estimating that a lot of plasma owners might upgrade. My 2008 reference Pioneer plasma will be 10 years old by then and by then hopefully all the standards will be finalized with a big selection of 4K OLED displays and 4K projectors to choose from. I would like to see 100+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray titles released. When 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray titles are released it is looking like my 4K Ultra HD desktop computer monitor will be the first device I will use to play the new releases on.
