Default Dish Network's Same as BD quality claim

I work for a Dish Network retailer and we just got some new info on their packages. They have now changed the "Same as BD quality claim to "Same resolution as Blu-ray Disc. I think maybe someone over from the BDA gave Dish a call. Just thought i would let you guys know as i remeber seeing a thread about this issue before.

Do you have Fios in your area? Their packages are pretty competitive and their internet is quite nice.

Well i work for a retailer that sells both Dish and DirecTv. Price wise Dish is more competative. DirecTv is more pricey but offer way more if your a sports fan. Right now Dish is doing really bad while DirecTv is doing really good. DirecTv has stated to us that they dont need a $40 package to be competative. Which i am starting to believe. Also if you want HD DirecTv is the way to go.

No fios isnt available...I have only had comcast triple play.
When i bought this house they had a direct tv satellite in the backyard.
So really i never had anything different but i'm looking for something new.
Dependable. Good picture quality with the hd channels. And a internet service that isnt slow...(i might stick with comcast on the internet)

I hear alot of stories about rain messing with satellites but then i hear thats not a problem...I see satellites on every house around here so im getting curious...When me and my wife go for a walk with our son i look....some people have dish...some have direct tv...not really a majority for either but alot of houses have it....I cant figure which is better in what ways...they look about the same...

Hah, those commercials really burned me up when I saw them. Yeah, same as BD if you drop lossless audio and don't mind compression out the wazoo.

Is it the same resolution?

1080p is not enough the support that claim. Blu-ray is 1920x1080p.

A common trick by DirectTV and cablecos is to reduce the temporal horizontal resolution to 1280 or 1440.

Dish has the better DVR and both have about the same number of channels depending on how you count them. If you want mainly sports, go with Direct, if you want internationals or HD only packages, go with Dish.

"Dish has the better DVR"?? I dont think so. Well at least not for me. I love my DVR with DirecTv. I love how i can place recordings without being home. I can place recordings thru my PC or my cell phone. Both companies offer Dual tuner DVR'S but are used in a different way. Dish allows you to have DVR service on 2tv's with 1 DVR. Only down fall is if you want to record something and someone else is currently using the other tv then you are forecd to watch what you are recording. Now if it wasnt in use then you can set it to record on the other tuner and change the channel. While with DirecTv's DVR you can record 2 shows at once or record and change the channel. Of course this is only on one tv but i see this as an advantage. Thats my opinion though.

Direct TV if you want sports, Dish network if you want movies. And I too like the dish DVR better.

I like DircTV a lot better. Dish has very questionable buisiness practices IMHO, and I can't stand their guide channel.

All of that is available on the Dish DVR as well. And you can record 3 HD programs on the Dish DVR and watch an HD previously recorded channel, all at the same time. I have done it many times. I don't use the dual TV option, not sure really why anyone does, just get another DVR, they are cheap. An independent research firm says the Dish DVR beats all comers.

Yeah but how many people are willing to pay 100 bucks for the extra DVR. If you do it the way you do it then yeah its possible as both tuners go to one tv. You still cant place recordings online or thru your phone

You don't have to buy one, just lease one for like $5 a month.

I really wonder though how many people feel the need to set timers through their phone and the web, yeah maybe cool, but how often does it actually happen.

Plus Dish has DishInteractive and Ethernet connection for VOD etc...and ability to use external USB drive for storing movies.

And also now the ability to play 1080p VOD.

If you want to talk about interactive then DirecTv completly smashes Dish on that. DirecTv also has an ethernet connection for VOD. Just not 1080p yet. I wouldn't use it anyways. Id rather buy a BD. As for the how many times do i set recordings online or thru my phone. It happens more than you think. If im running late at work i can simply set the recording. Or if i forgot to record somthing i can simply log on and set it to record. Both companies have advantages but i see a better advantage at least for me with DirecTv. Plus im a big football fan and Sunday Ticket is a must for me.

My buddy has worked for both and he says DirecTv is by far the best of the two. I have had DT for like 12 years now, call me a homer , but I think DT hands down is the better out of the two, especially for sports. Plus like someone mentioned above there TV guides blow, they are horriable!!

Dish is completely incorrect. They let some idiot market that information and must think we are ignorant as well. Although several factors must be taken into consideration, 1080i is not 1080p. I believe it is a desperate attempt by Dish to boost their customer base, and it may backfire on them.
Not really sure about Directv vs. Dish comparision because I only have experience with Directv.

They have 1080p for VOD. DirecTV is doin the same thing too but no trying to pass it off as Blu-ray quality.
