Looks like they may actually make it!

Does it mention if this will be available in a future update?

Angry Makes me mad as #%$@

I though this player was supposed to be fully loaded at release time... WTF Sony!?!?!?

I'm tired of all the over priced under spec'd crap... Maybe Blu can stay right where it is... on the shelf...

The website states that it will bitstream both HD codecs on launch, as well as decoding Dolby TrueHD, with DTS HD to follow with an update.

It looks like they are still making edits to those specs, as the listing only went up a couple of days ago. I won't be surprised if it's edited to decode both codecs before ship date.

No bitstream for m. My receiver won't decode the new codecs.
I need onboard decoding, or i'm going to get the Panny 50.
Maybe wait for the new OPPO!

It may not decode it but it will bitstream. Everyone is getting upset but pretty much everyone here has receivers that will decode all codecs, so I don't know why everyone is getting all bent out of shape.

I've been waiting almost a year now to have my onkyo 805 read DTS-HD MA across the front of it, when I put an HD-DVD in my (sorry guys) Toshiba A35 my AVR reads out DTS-HD MA, I know it sounds dumb but I am really looking forward to a BD player that can do it.

What I don't understand is why would anyone need the S550 anyway if they have an AVR that decodes all the lossless audio codecs? I think the S350 or the Panny BD 30 which will soon go for about $200 less during the holidays can bitstream the lossless codecs just as well as the S550.

Default Need DTS Master

My AVR doesn't decode 7.1. For me, the player must do this. I have been sitting on the sidelines until the S550 was available. It was promoted to decode all codecs. Evidently Sony and DTS can't come to an agreement.

The answer is simple: I will buy another unit that does decode DTS Master as needed. Why would I wait for the S550 if it doesn't "live up to its own billing?"

This deck will both bitstream and decode all codecs out of the box. Sonystyle is wrong as usual - take a deep breath and relax!

You have to read the fine print on the SonyStyle page.

"(DTS-HD decoding function will be provided by firmware update)"

The S550 will not decode DTS-HD out of the box but Sony will issue a firmware upgrade later after it's release to active it.

Why are you still waiting?
The panasonic BD-30 has been doing this for a year now.

The lights on the Onkyo won't light up DTS MA if the player is doing the decoding.

That's cool. Especially if you have a Sony display.
(However you do know that Panasonic owns more Bluray patents than Sony right? )
