Someone once said, I think, that the UK disc has the same improved transfer, is that true? Does it also have the original burned-in titles, like the US disc?
The U.K. disc is identical to the U.S. disc in terms of PQ/AQ. I have the DE disc and prefer it because it has no DNR unlike the U.S. and U.K. discs. The only downside is that it has DTS-HD HR instead of LPCM.

Ah, guess it was only the DE disc people were raving about. I can definitely see the difference in the caps, but the titles being anything other than the original, especially since they're now in a foreign language, is a dealbreaker for me. I'll stick with my ever-so-slightly-fuzzy US disc for now.

Thanks for the info though!

Looking at Caps-a-Holic, I saw their comparison to the German BD and it looks close to the German BD, but not sure if it's the same transfer as on Netflix it's at the correct 1.85 ratio.

Anyone else care to check it out for comparison? I do hope Disney will release a new BD with this far superior transfer to what's out now.
Do you mean Netflix Disc, which I have with the Blu-ray option, or Streaming? Cause I don't do streaming and never will for my own accounts.

My Mom has Netflix Streaming so next time I'm over at her house for a visit I'll see how it looks.

I think Best Buy had this at the Soquel location where I went earlier today when I went there to buy what I bought for around $7 or $8. I don't mind also having the German release for the better image. Maybe. It's not high on priority to buy even though I consider it to be an Upgrade since I last owned the 2-Disc DVD.

I have been watching X-Files on Netflix and I'd say the X-Files episodes definately look better than The Sixth Sense. I dont see any "HD" option either

I'll probably just wait for another GoHastings sale.

Over at her house I also caught a few episodes of The X-Files and they appear simply stunning, reframing or whichever aside.

Might as well.

(Some weird reason I don't feel as I'm in much of a rush to Upgrade this movie onto Blu-ray as I am for other titles. I have no clue why.)

What other films out there look better in HD streaming/broadcasts than they do on BD?

Was that Dran-o the mom was putting in her kid's soup? Why would the mom prepare soup in the kitchen but add the Dran-o when she got to the bedroom? Isn't the Dran-o under the kitchen sink anyway?

The DE disc still has the best PQ for this film.

The Sixth Sense is one of those films that I'd love to have on Blu-ray, but I'm holding out for a better edition at some point, and I can wait (since I watched the movie so many times on DVD about 16 years ago that I wore it out).

The German disc does seem to have the best picture quality, judging from the caps-a-holic comparisons, but it only has German subtitles, according to the specs here. So I continue to wait...

That's true. It doesn't have English subs or lossless audio, but the PQ is much better.

Watched this film tonight for the first time in several years -- probably 8 or 9 years. I was really impressed with how well it holds up, and just how beautifully made and acted it is. Knowing the ending ahead of time now, the surprise is long gone, but it doesn't matter. The emotion and the character arcs really hold up. I was very choked up at the end. The whole story of redemption, both for the boy, his mother and for Malcom is wonderfully effective.

I know that Shyamalan has fallen a long way since then and made some pretty poor films, but there is real talent there. Seeing this again, I would list it among the very best films of the 90's, and one of the finest films of the genre, period.

Exactly. That proves that we don't watch a movie for the ending, or the twist. If already knowing the ending, or knowing the twist mattered, then why do we own Blu-ray's?

We own Blu-ray's because they're good films.

If a movie is great, knowing the twist or ending shouldn't matter.

If knowing the ending of a flick mattered, people wouldn't buy movies they've seen before, right?

Smile The sixth sense

Next year will be the 20th anniversary of THE SIXTH SENSE.

Here's hoping it gets a 4K restoration for Blu-ray release.

Plus, I'm not sure if anyone remembers, but this ranks at #89 on the 10th anniversary edition of the American Film Institute's list of the 100 Greatest Movies of All Time.

I hope this gets a new master for it's anniversary next year as well with a competently done UHD. For now, the DE BD is still the best for PQ.

Question

I just realized something today. Which home entertainment company will release THE SIXTH SENSE on Blu-ray next year (since next year will be the film's 20th anniversary)?

The reason I ask is because THE SIXTH SENSE was released by Hollywood Pictures, which is now defunct. Maybe Criterion?
