Big screen, small screen, ABC, Netflix, and now Fox (and by extension their FX brand) … Marvel will stop at nothing to take over every corner of the media world when it comes to adapting their comic materials. The latest project is Legion, “ the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human.” Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley will write the pilot and serve as executive producer, alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, and John Cameron. (A lot of X-Men production folks, since lead character Haller is part of the X-Men universe as Professor Xavier’s mutant son). Marvel and FX productions will both be involved with the financing, although FX will handle the actual production. The pilot will introduce the story of David Haller: |

One big break leads to another. I have learned that Fargo Season 2 standout Rachel Keller has been cast as the female lead in Legion, FX’s X-Men-universe pilot from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, Bryan Singer, Marvel TV and FX Prods. The 23-year-old Keller, who landed her first major role as femme fatale Simone Gerhardt in Fargo, was a breakout and a fan favorite. I hear she also impressed Hawley and FX brass who moved on to cast her in her first leading role. As with any other Marvel project, FX, Marvel TV and talent reps would not comment.
Legion introduces the story of David Haller, based on the Marvel comics character Legion, the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier. Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real. Keller will play the female lead, a scrappy, optimistic woman in her 20s. Details about her potential powers are unclear. There has been chatter about them possibly being tied to human touch, drawing parallels to such X-Men universe characters as Rogue and Spyke. Hawley wrote the pilot and serves as an executive producer with the film franchise’s director/producer Singer, producer Lauren Shuler Donner, writer/producer Simon Kinberg as well as Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory, John Cameron and Steve Blackman. http://deadline.com/2016/01/legion-m...fx-1201676226/ |

I just have no interest in seeing this. Fargo just was never my cup of tea and I think that's going to turn a lot of fans off. Thing with Legion, everyone will be expecting appearances from the X-Men but since that will never happen, don't expect much interest in this series.
Fox Studios has never had a breakout hit with their franchise shows. Take a look at Gotham. While the first season started out with eight million views, those numbers have steadily declined over the second and third season and are barely scraping around three million viewers now. While interest may be peaked with the pilot episode, expect those numbers to drop before the first season concludes. I'd be surprised if this series gets a renewal. |

Gotham was by Warner Bros, and aired on Fox. It had nothing to do with Fox Studios and isn't really comparable. People were expecting more Batman and less procedural. Gotham as a show is also a complete mess. Legion only has eight episodes in Season 1, and unless it is a complete bomb (unlikely), will almost definitely get a Season 2. |
