Hello,
I am currently considering a purchase in the $500-$700 range for a 1080p display. I'd like to be able to calibrate my tv and have some dynamic control over the picture but nothing too scientific. I just need to be able to get my films not so saturated and lush and tone them down in color a bit, ease up on the sharpness, contrast, etc. Ideally, I'd like to be able to watch movies at their native 24fps rate so I'm guessing a 60hz is out of the question? Though I cannot stand the soap opera effect. I like the nice and relaxed flow of things. I dislike Peter Jackson/James Cameron 60-120-240fps nonsense lol. I've considered plasma (panasonic or pioneer) but I hear burn thru horror stories and their prices are jacked! I was thinking between a 46" and a 55", somewhere in there would be all I needed for a very long time. Am I dreaming? Asking too much? If I'm not, does anyone have any suggestions? And my apologies if this thread is nauseating because it's been started so many times. I haven't seen anything this specific at close range on the board. ![]() Thanks! I won't say "your asking too much" in the price range your asking, but, it's quite the stretch. Rather than ask about the tv you mentioned, have you gone to a store and seen it in person? If so did the vendor give you the remote and let you make some changes to things? If so, what did you think?
Also, have you seen reviews (pro and consumer) on the set you list? If so, what did they have to say? I'd say do all you can to actually view the tv in person. If your lucky, have one connected to a blu-ray player and see a 24fps mode. While more money is probably better, you can, if you dial back an expectation or two, find a nice set. Another thing I'd recommend is if you have a working set right now, hold onto it and save up as much cash as you can for Black Friday or Cyber Monday next month. It's all about what your willing to accept within your budget. Good luck and keep us posted. |

You're about a year or two too late. A couple of years ago, you could have gotten a fantastic plasma in your price range, but now...not a chance you'll get anything of substantial quality in that price range. My advice? Save up and wait for OLED to come down in price.

Thanks. I think for now I'll just get my 50" Polaroid and calibrate it best I can.
I'm sure the 5 hundy I spend on that is just gonna be a drop in the bucket towards an OLED lol. I'm stuck with a 720p HDTV, if you can call it that. It's been good to me, it's a Polaroid. Beautiful picture (really). But I need 1080. Thanks again. |

Patience and wait for BF and you will get much more for your money. If pressed to buy today, then also consider:
http://televisions.reviewed.com/cont...-led-tv-review It is $528 new but AMZ also sells it as a refurb under $500. I do not have one or seen one, so before you buy any TV PLEASE see it in person. I almost pulled the trigger on a couple of TVs just going on Internet reviews, but then when I saw them in the store there was one thing or another I did not like about them. |

There really isn't anything at all good in that price range anymore. If you have a working tv I would just hold out a bit longer. The jump from 720p to 1080p is rather minor compared to all other aspects of picture quality anyway, so you should really be wanting to upgrade for those reasons more then the resolution bump.
