Jesus of Nazareth: The Complete Miniseries-The 40th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray (studio Shout Factory). According to the Christianbook.com website this Blu-ray disc will be released on 2-23-16 with a list price of only $24.99 ($21.99 pre-order price).

This is a classic 1977 miniseries and one of my absolute favorite Jesus miniseries. Now finally a HD quality treatment is being made for the USA market in region A (prior versions on Blu-ray were International region B locked from Spain and Germany). It will be time to replace the old 480i DVD version now. Years ago, I replaced the Beta videotape version with the 480i DVD version of Jesus of Nazareth.

Not sure if this helps but the movie unlimited link lists the runtime as 382 minutes

That in theory should be the uncut version since the Feb 15th 2000 DVD release was also 382 minutes.

well, I don't trust sites specs until a BLuray is released.
Even amazon makes mistakes multiple times.

The Mexican, German and Spanish Bluray are cut.
The Australian and Spanish 2nd version (after people complained) are uncut.

Great news (even if it's a year too early to be calling it a 40th Anniversary Edition)! I've had the Mexican BD for a few years, now, and while the two missing scenes annoy me, the restoration is easily the best this film has ever looked. I wonder if Shout Factory will utilize the same restoration (but with the two scenes restored), or a different one. I'm hoping they produce some supplements for this release while they're at it. I'd love to see the deleted scenes of which promo stills exist, but I realize that's a long shot.

There is an extended scene of Pilate and Zerah talking during the whipping of Jesus. It was only shown in Italy I believe.

I see there was 5 different versions that were released on Blu-ray around the world.

However only the Mexico 371 minute version is listed as region free according to the specs at the Blu-ray.com database. The Spain version 2 is uncut region B and listed as 384 minutes (where did the extra 2 minutes come from?, some trailers?) At this point, I will just wait for the USA region A version to be released since it mentions 382 minutes.


Finally, a region A uncut version is being released (if the specs are correct). This miniseries has some slow moments, however it really picks up and is extremely enjoyable toward the last few hours. It’s been around 15 years since I watched this series on DVD. To busy watching other Christian and secular movies when I have free time.

In theory the USA version from Shout Factory most likely will have a lossless Jesus of Nazareth soundtrack that is bit for bit exactly the same as the studio master soundtrack. If that theory holds true, then this will be the very first time consumers can hear the soundtrack that matches the studio audio quality. I am surprised that the other 5 Blu-ray releases were lossy soundtracks.


Correction, it sounds like the Spain version might be both lossless and region A.

There was a sequel to the 1977 Jesus of Nazareth mini-series. It was the 1985 A.D. miniseries about the Acts of the Apostles. I own that on DVD also.


I hope one day Shout Factory or another studio releases the 1985 A.D. miniseries on Blu-ray.

Finally after going back and forth with Lionsgate for years somebody finally heard our requests for a blu Ray release in the U.S. Hope this is remastered and fully restored with the 2 missing scenes. Thanks Shout

The version from Spain plays on Region A players. The soundtrack is lossless.
