Default Would amazon do this?

If you live in a state that has to pay tax (NY in my case) but if you're a prime member, you don't pay tax. It could increase the membership of prime. Any thoughts?

I dont think they would legally be able to not collect your tax. Theyre not just taking it from you for sh!ts and giggles.

They could if Amazon covered the tax, so legally they could. I doubt it though as its just added costs.

So to fully understand what you are saying, You say you are not paying tax right now because you have prime? or is this hypotheticial

I dont know, maybe i misunderstood it. I just know that if you are required to pay tax in your state on purchases through places like amazon you always will be paying tax until your state changes the tax code. Amazon would have no say over not charging you tax.

@jwbbud- your right. i guess i didnt think of it cause it would never happen, like you said.

This is actually incorrect. The responsibility of paying sales taxes lies with the merchant. The merchant passes that cost directly to the consumer (usually itemized on a receipt). The merchant then sends a massive check (with everyone's tax transactions) to the state.

Well, one can dream can they. If anyone would try this, amazon would be the company that would. Now whether or not they actually do it, is another story.
