The two are released by two different studios ones by Warner brothers and ones by universal. Each studio decides whether or not a movie gets released on bluray.

Huge HUGE HUGE classic Jems fan here but I never ever want to see this film. as one article stated they weren't sure who they made this updated version of Jem for because it was NOT for the fans of the show.

It bombed because this movie had nothing to do with the show. The cartoon is an 80's soap opera classic! There were people slapping each other and the main characters were young ladies. The writers and the director of the film need punched in the face. That's me being nice about it.

If you're a Jem fan buy the box set of what the show really was. Ignore the film and let it die miserably.

Wow, I'm surprised they are even bothering with a home video release.

Movies about EDM barely deserve DVD, much less bluray.

I watched the show on Netflix earlier last year, then I saw the movie. I was prepared for it to be different. Noting the movie only got a $5 million budget, of course they weren't going to do the intensive special effects that would do the concept of Synergy justice. But even with all the changes they made, I actually liked it. I thought making Rio
[Show spoiler]their manager and knowing who Jem actually is (that was one unresolved bit I wish the cartoon had done)
actually improved on the character.

I did see where they could have gone in a sequel that would have made it more like the cartoon, but it's too bad we couldn't have had that sequel right out the gate as it would definitely have gotten fans of the show interested. With it only earning less than half its budget, there's no way they're going to spare the chump change they made this movie on again for a sequel.

I guess it's a victim of how Hollywood wants to give us "the whole story" and give us an underwhelming prequel before they give us a good story, but if the prequel doesn't do well, then we don't get the good stuff.

This movie was 2 hours and only had like, 3 performances. So boring. They should've made Ke$ha's band a part of the film, not wait until the ending to introduce them.

I was actually looking forward to getting this at one time, thinking it might be one of those big Hollywood bombs like Howard the Duck, Batman & Robin, or The Garbage Pail Kids movie that are so horrible, but somehow fascinating at the same time. I also thought the movie could be a throwback that is reminiscent of rock movies like Jubilee, Liquid Sky, or Vicious Lips where it has elaborate, punk rock costumes, charismatic characters, and a rocking, memorable soundtrack. Maybe it just couldn't find an audience in theaters, but no...

this movie just looks dull, without spirit, and unoriginal. Every time I watch the trailer I hope that it will be the movie I was wanting and expected, but I never get it. I can't get myself interested in this movie beyond the title that inexplicably still draws my interest.

The best thing I could say about the movie is that the cinematography and costumes were nice. The cast really tried, but whatever effort they put forth was futile because of the ultra lame cliched script. No relation at all to the superior 80s animated show( other than names). There were so many different things the director could have tried, but instead played it way too safe and lazy. My two cents.

I just spoke to two staff members at two different Best Buy stores and it turns out that the DVD is only being sold in-store and not the Blu-Ray. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm guessing that there's not a lot of perceived demand for this one, so stores might not buy a lot of stock.

I just preordered my copy from Amazon. Nice that Universal put all the bonuses on the DVD as well as the Blu-Ray.

I went to Wal-Mart too and they didn't have it. Only Target has it.
