My first thought when I saw the listing on Amazon UK was very happy. Currently am cautiously positive. I'm hoping there are going to be some extras on this release.

Yep thats the one. My only recollection of the film is a scene where they are watching Rawhide and singing along to the theme tune. 'Rollin, Rollin, Rollin'

Ripping the p1ss out of the German neighbours after the world cup final, and ending up dancing their way into the swimming pool was always a highlight!

And I'll trade in some of my cool points here and admit that I love(d) the soundtrack.....

I love the soundtrack as well. Hoping the music videos are included among the extras (if there are any).

What was the original aspect ratio for Buster? Whenever I've seen it shown on TV (usually on the BBC), it was a grainy fullscreen picture.

At the moment on it's page on this website, it has it as 1.85:1

OAR is 1.85:1 but the previous DVDs were derived from a 1.66:1 master.

Interestingly, having a look at the previous DVD releases they're described as the "abridged" version, even on the BBFC entry - clocking at 92 minutes, whereas the VHS and cinematic versions were 98 minutes and 102 minutes respectively (PAL speed up) - what's the nature of the abridgement, anyone know?

Only thing I can find is this from IMDB:

Quote:
The initial U.S. release of this film had its running time cut from 102 minutes to 94 minutes by its U.S. distributor, Hemdale Films. The subsequent video release by HBO Home Video was based on this edited version, however, a more recent release by MGM Home Video includes the complete film uncut.
Looks like the previous UK DVD release was based on the shortened US version. The previous VHS releases from Vestron, VCI and Columbia all used the full 102 minute version.

Can't find anything about the mentioned MGM re-release of the full version though.

The AMZ listing suggests that this blu-ray is the shortened edit too.

Not sure what the nature of the cuts would be, can't find anything about that at all. I know there was controversy at the time around the film "glorifying violence", so possibly some cuts to remedy that, but 8 minutes seems like a lot just for that given that the vast majority of any violence is at the start during the heist itself...
