Default Audioholics: 10 Reasons Why High Definition DVD Formats Have Already Failed

I'd quote the whole thing but it's too long. Well worth your time to read, if you haven't already.

Well I disagree with just about everything he says. My instinct tells me that at least one of these HD disc formats will not be a niche product, but rather eventually replace DVD. I feel that these are the last two forms of physical media that will be popular. Some say DVD is the last but I'm confident there is still time for yet another one.

I don't know. I think I pretty much agree with almost all of the points...

So far. Things can change over the course of the next several months.

DVD didn't become a success overnight either.

Default Interesting, but...

I disagree with virtually everyone of his major points.

He does put forth some interesting points to ponder, but his results are flawed.

For example, he uses Apple's selling of videos & TV shows as a reason why people will download rather than buy HD DVDs or Blu-ray Disks. Yes, people will buy show for their iPods, etc. but the resolution of these downloads will look terrible on anything but the smallest of screens. Also who wants to watch an epic movie on an iPod? Not me, and I suspose not most people.

When Joe Sixpack finally realizes he can watch movies in their original format and at fantastic clarity if he buys a system that does 1080p (player and TV) and when the price of that entire set up goes below $1500 then the avalanche will happen. It will happen. Not next week. Not next month. Probably not even next year. But certainly it will happen.
