Default BD-P1500 and Iron Man

Just read on another forum that someone who got themselves a copy of Iron Man can't get it to play on their BD-P1500. They also have a PS3 and the disc loaded and played just fine on it. They said with the BD-P1500, the screen just went black when trying to load Iron Man. Nothing else happened.

Kind of concerned about this because I just bought the BD-P1500 and I will be getting a copy of Iron Man when it is officially released.

Anyone with a BD-P1500 have Iron Man already and have you gotten it to play?

The player probably just needs an update that hasn't been released yet.

Well, perhaps...by the way, this person has the latest firmware updated on the Samsung unit.

I'm just concerned about this happening often with the Samsung unit. I don't want to have to wait for firmware to be released to watch a new movie I just picked up. I still have about 14 days left to exchange my unit. I might go and exchange it for a Sony BDPS350 and pay the $50 difference if this is going to be an issue with the Samsung units.

I also have the BD-P1500. I have not had any problems playing any of the blu-rays that I own or the ones I have rented. I downloaded Samsung's latest firmware when I bought the player back in June. Also, I have a copy of Iron Man that said was shipped yesterday. I'll let you know if indeed it does play on my player.

Thanks!

I have not had any problems playing any of my BD's to date either. Just concerned about future problems though.

I know quite a few people feel that way about Samsung, but to date, as I mentioned, I have had no issues with the 1500. It has worked flawlessly and has provided excellent PQ and AQ. It also loads very fast.

I already exchanged the Sharp BD-HP20U to get the 1500 (heard a lot of bad things about the Sharp), so I don't want to exchange the 1500 unless I absolutely feel it is needed. Maybe I'm just reading too much into some of these posts on message forums...

Pssst: It will happen -- and often -- with the Samsung unit(s). Take it from one who knows. Do yourself a favor, box the 1500 up, take it back to wherever you got it, and get the Sony. You won't regret it. I had to learn the hard way (as did lots of others).

Others agree with this?

I would like to hear from all sides.

Edit: And no one has ever had an issue with disc playback in the 350?

Agreed. I had the BDP1400 for about a week before I took it back and got the Panny BD30.

hey, it was probably my post about my friend. I have the ps3 and iron man work just fine. She has a sammy BD-P2550 and all she gets is a black screen. funny thing is that the 2nd disc (special features) works fine. she can't even press play..

Maybe we could keep posts in here a little more constructive? A generalization like "they suck" isn't very helpful.

I'm sure there are owners of the Sony 350 who might have had a few problems. Haven't really heard of any but I'm sure there are. Even so, I would be willing to bet that number is minute compared to what Samsung owners (me included) experience.

Anyway, just giving you advice. Do what you want with it. But I can almost predict it will end in tears with the 1500.

Yep, appreciate the advice as well.

I am exchanging the 1500 for the Sony 350. Don't want the PS3, but the 350 should do me fine. I've read numerous things that have stated the 350 is better at DVD upconversion than the 1500 anyway, so that will be a plus as well.

Off to BB I go...
