First off, welcome friend. Glad you joined the cause.

Now that that's out of the way, Warner has "promised" Blu-ray guys that they will release all of their major HD-DVD blockbusters on Blu-ray at some time in the near future (late 2007-early 2008). So while they are correct in saying that Batman will eventually be on Blu-ray, nothing has been formally announced yet, as Warner is dragging their feet and waiting for the BD-J stuff to be finalized.

Hope that helps.

Isn't this BD-J stuff finalized? Doesn't Disney already use this technology like in movies like Chicken Little & POTC I & II?

It was reported a short while back that BD-J had been finalised.

Beatboy posted this, I still consider it a semi-rumor:

I have a bit of a Warner Brother's update in-regards to Blu-ray. I just got off the phone with my marketing rep from WB and she says the following:

Batman Begins will be released on Blu-ray on a BD50 in the 4th Quarter of 2007. It will have a new 5.1 PCM track in addition to the TrueHD track. It is not known yet if WB will redo the VC-1 transfer and up the bitrate as that comapred to the HD-DVD version.

Superman Returns will be re-released in the 4th Quarter of 2007 on Blu-ray. This too will have a new 5.1 PCM track and TrueHD. It will not have a new VC-1 encode. This can be currently found in the box of the new Pioneer Blu-ray player.

She also mentioned there is a good chance that The Matrix trilogy will be available in November of this year with PCM tracks as well.

Way to track newtoblu's report down! You both have good eyes.

There is a widespread confusion between Profiles and BD-J.

Think of the Profiles defining the necessary features of BD-J that can be exploited by the programmers (the features are programming interfaces to underlying hardware).

The current Profile 1.0 offers a set of capabilities. Profile 1.1 adds more. But, from the beginning many things were (and are) possible with BD-J using the current Profile 1.0 capabilities.

PiP overlay support (using a second decoder channel) is the key feature of Profile 1.1.

The case for Batman Begins on Blu-ray has been around for 2 years.

This is from the BDA's booth at CES 2006.

I can guarantee Batman Begins will be out this year with lossless audio. They are going to try to get Matrix out as well, but Batman is carved in stone.

Is there an actual date on that stone? Ok, we'll settle for the month. I'm betting late October...am I right?

Funny how they make these cases years in advance! But, I guess it isn't that expensive to have someone print out a sleeve and throw it in a case....pretty cheap marketing i suppose.

I've been hearing the same story everyone else has been hearing which is that Warner is waiting on Blu-Ray features to get finalized. Whether thats BD-J or these profile thingys I don't know.
