United Kingdom Why does so much of the BBC stuff not get a blu ray release?

Our World War last year didn't get a blu ray release, neither did Our War. Apparently And Then There Were One isn't getting a blu ray release neither, least according to amazon. There's more I can't remember off the top of my head, but still. Any reason for this, or am I just looking in the wrong place?

Inside Number Nine, House of Fools.. tons of BBC productions dont see blu release. Can imagine the beeb have had little luck shifting previous titles in HD so just don't bother. Can't blame them really.

And yet Mrs Browns Boys gets Blu-ray releases. Disgusting.

On the plus side, the upcoming War & Peace is getting one.

Is similar to ITV they believe most of the shows you mention appeal to older audiences who are happy with cheaper DVD only releases. You see titles like Doctor Who released on BD as they appeal to a younger male audience who are still the biggest BD buyers.

Is a pity because other countries like Germany and US see a market for BDs of BBC titles.

Would a German version not include the english voice track?

Aside from the next season of Musketeers and Sherlock (unless they end it with Abominable Bride, then I'd get it), Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is a season I want to get (season 2 is not likely since the next book has not come out yet). Orphan Black I am holding out for the whole series in one collection. But one of the biggest travesties?

I'm going to need to order The Last Kingdom from overseas if I want it on Blu. The DVD set's on pre-buy for $20 on Amazon's US branch, but the Blu's about double the price and not getting localized...least not yet.

Usually, international releases keep the original audio tracks of the original content built in for Blu's. My experience is they add in dubs and subs for certain regions when they distribute, but if the original medium was shot in English dialect, the English dialect would still be there.

Why is it? Because it makes money and the shows you want don't? You want them to spend money making discs that only you and a small tiny little niche audience is gonna buy? I don't think so.

If it means that much to have it in HD, well, everything is available in HD online, 720p or 1080i or if it needs to be in your living room then save it onto whatever satalite or cable box you have. Problem solved.

In some cases they even get superior audio to the UK releases ie UK releases of Sherlock Series 1 and 2 are Dolby Digital but the German and French releases feature DTS-HD MA

I really wish series 1 to 3 of Merlin would get a BR release, and the second half of Atlantis series 2. I'd settle for complete series boxsets of both, but I'm not holding my breath...

I know, but I'm quite sad when it comes to matching spines on a shelf... I'm sure I'll cave in eventually!

That would explain why I only see Series 4 and 5 on their lonesome, and then the whole darned thing in package.

Not in the UK, and from what I've read 1 to 3 are upscales or poor transfers?

Increasingly these days I find myself having to shop further afield to complete my collections.

I imported Atlantis - Series 2, Part 2 and Merlin - The Complete Series region-free from the US. To complete Robin Hood I had to get series 2 & 3 from Germany.

I'm not sure why these relatively popular British genre series did not get complete blu-ray releases here in the UK.

Yes it would. It's why I have bought many BBC and ITV shows on BD from Germany, US and Spain in particular. They see these shows as viable on BD unlike the BBC themselves in the UK.

Normally they stop because the earlier seasons sold poorly especially at full price.

This one isn't BBC, but Foyles War hasn't had a UK blu ray release either, whereas it did in Australia, which is weird to me.

It is very disappointing. I was hoping new series Dickensian would get a Blu-Ray release as they've spend so much on production and design but only a DVD to come sadly.

Was also disapponted when they released series 1,2 and 3 of Lark Rise to Candleford on Blu-Ray but not the final fourth series.

There's definitely a market for BBC releases on Blu-Ray so they should produce more!
