May, as I need more proof but what I have seen of the digital copies and the retail discs the colours are seriously muted and I mean seriously muted.
Bluray can look better, and the film didn't look that way in either the state of the art cinema or local fela pit I saw it in. I get bluray cannot resolve the same colour and contrast spaces but, not like this. And I hope I am very wrong, and I very well may be. |

Ah, so the hobbling of HD may have begun in earnest? Oh joy.
![]() I didn't think much of the movie but now I'll have to get the Blu and see if stacks up against the memory of the version I saw in my local flea pit a couple months ago, which looked great. |

I loved the movie, saw it 3d in xplus and 2d in the flea pit and it was not that bleached of colour, mind you I may be very wrong and I seriously hope I am.

Inception is one example. Absolutely terrible looking DVD. Last edited by saprano; 01-02-2016 at 04:35 AM. |

Inception came out in 2010. Anyone still buying DVDs by then probably didn't give a damn about picture quality

Agreed saprano. The quality of DVD mastering started to dip even before that, I bought the Donner Cut of Superman II on DVD in 2006 and the compression was shocking, it was VCD-esque at times. (Oh look, it's Warners again.)

Thankfully not all studios take this route.

Sure, it seems to be Warners' habit to lowball pretty much everything, whereas Universal's DVDs for new releases even now are still excellent, never mind their new Blu-rays. Stuff like Lucy is simply amazing, whereas with Warners there's always this nagging feeling that they're stripping a little off the top.
