I have a Sony 4K Upscaling bluray player. (BDP-S6500) I know this question is pretty irrelevant with true 4K players about to come out. So i have my player directly connected to my 4K tv, why doesn't the player have 4K content? Will the player not give me 2160p while watching Bluray? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Not all players have Apps that have 4K content, the player won't playback UHD BDs, but you should be able to stream 4K content or play it from a hard drive. I don't have much experience with the 4K upscaling players, but they're almost a false-economy, the TVs themselves are very good at upscaling regular BDs to the higher resolution. But they are useful if they have 4K Apps if your TV doesn't. |

Try Auto2. But Auto1 should be correct for Sony equipment.
But first press the INFO button on your TVs remote to see what the resolution is, I'm not 100% but the BD player's INFO button may read what the source resolution is and not the output resolution. The TV INFO should say what the player is sending to the TV. Last edited by chip75; 01-21-2016 at 05:24 PM. |

That would do it (especially an older receiver) , try plugging directly into the TV for a comparison test.

So you can compare results of the two devices upscaling capabilities. |

I didn't know that the upscale blu ray player will actually state that it is in that resolution. I thought it would still display as 1080P on the information but "upscale to 4K"
I might be wrong. You could always try to go to vudu and watch a 4K clip preview of Fury Road and just verify that you are least seeing it with that. |

For example my Sony BD player will display 1080p for DVDs on both player and TV when set to Auto resolution, but it will say 576p on both when set to Original (the TV will upscale to 1920 x 1080). |

Is the 4K player plugged into the correct port on the TV? Some only have one or two 4K inputs. It should be listed as 4K 60fps or 4K 30hz if it's limited to one 4K input. Can you jot down your player's video settings? I'll have a quick look at your TV's manual. |

Looking at the manual all 4 HDMI inputs support 4K, number 4 is ARC (so if you have ARC on your receiver plug that into your receivers ARC connection).
I'm not sure why it's not showing as 4K on your TV, as others have said maybe that's the way the display info works, but it's worth downloading a 4K clip and trying that, then you should see the correct info displayed. At any rate even if your player isn't upscaling your TV certainly is! |

It should in theory say on the TV that it's receiving 4K from your player, so it might be an issue with the player's settings. It should definitely work unless the settings are affecting the output. Bear in mind that you need all the 24p settings to be correct and you can't upscale 3D content from the player's end.
