So after a lot of humming and hawing about what kind of cable/wire to use for my 2.1 setup, I need to figure out what kind of termination I want to use... I have banana plugs for the 5.1 because I often need to move speakers to access the other equipment (easier than moving the whole TV stand)
The stereo setup will be B&W 601 bookshelf speakers on stands, so they can be moved easily if the need arises... they can accept pretty much everything out there for wire terminations... bare wire, bananas, pins, spades... and so now I have to ask... which do you all prefer? Is there any real benefit to using a termination such as a spade? I like the look of spades and how they keep the wire at a 90 degree angle from the binding post... opinions??? Please post links to buy the terminations if you can! |

I use these banana plugs. Good quality, low cost:

as long as you get a great amount of surface contact between the speaker wire and the speaker terminal, the better. i voted for banana's since they have both the convenience, and the 'even' surface (even tho it doesnt matter)...
good quality speaker wires, great connectivity, and a good amount of isolation is imperative. |

This kind can usually can do the job.
![]() j/k I voted for banana since that's what I use. But really, banana and other options are more for convenience over bare wire than anything. Last edited by red_5ive; 09-27-2008 at 03:42 PM. |

Well I ordered some spades and banana plugs from Bluejeanscable.com
I figure that whatever I don't use can be put in the box of other cabling/connections I no longer use (couple sets of component cables, some fiber optic, HDMI to DVI cable, etc) or sold to someone who could use them. I guess I'll try both ways and see if there's any difference |

So I guess I'll be making my own cables (assembling them anyways)
Here's what I've decided on (for now) Bananas to connect to the amp, spades for the speakers, gray Belden 5T00UP 10AWG wire from BlueJeansCable, black PET Expandable Braided Sleeving from CableOrganizer, and of course, a bit of heat shrink tubing. Would it be helpful to anyone for me to post a picture tutorial of the assembly when I do it? |
