I hope so too, since I didn't see a 3D trailer for this.

Also, Deepwater Horizon and The Divergent Series: Allegiant is also confirmed to have IMAX releases.

I haven't heard of Deepwater Horizon 3D, thanks for the info.
Gods of Egypt 3D has a tough battle to win in theaters, but if the movie is fun, that might help a bit. Otherwise, I wonder if we can expect a similar low box office turnout as with Legend of Hercules 3D, which had medium to mostly strong 3D layers, which Gods of Egypt appears to have as well based on the trailer anyway.

I'll see this one for the 3D, the action, monsters, special effects and entertainment value. Hopefully the story will be good too.

Just saw the UK trailer and jesus. I was actually planning to go watch this blasted out of my mind but the CGI in this trailer just looks horrendous. The green screen is so blatantly obvious.

The CGI shiny winged characters, if they're going for realism, could use more wear or less polish on the shine of their armor, or more shadows and contrast to give it a more life like effect. If they're going for something more symbolic, then it's more acceptable IMO.

Even if a movie isn't AAA status in all aspects, it still might be entertaining and the 3D in this looks very promising based on the 3D trailer of strong 3D. But that was only for the action scenes, so I'll reserve my judgment till I see the final film.

I still think this looks like an absolute blast. Wish we got more movies set in ancient Egypt, fantasy or not.

I tend to like Proyas' films, even the ones others seem to hate.

So, I'll more than likely enjoy this one.

Worldwide, Gods of Egypt 3D may do well enough to earn beyond it's $140 million budget, but to make a profit, it would probably have to earn $280+ world wide considering theaters take a good cut of the box office sales.
In the US, it will be a tough battle to convince audiences during the winter season.

I'll check it out in 3D. If it was 2D only, I would have to think it over more. Glad they're offering 3D.

This could surprise us all and become a huge unexpected hit.... but it probably won't and will probably majorly flop.

It just looks like a great fun OTT fantasy adventure, the kind which i love. Let's also bear in mind that 3D can help sell visual FX much better.

Lionsgate's at least hedged their bets with this one. Between foreign pre-sales and Aussie tax credits, they claim they're only on the hook for $10 million if it bombs. Compared to the $100+ losses of stuff like John Carter, The Lone Ranger or 47 Ronin.

There's a website called HSX that's a simulated stock exchange game with movies instead of money; it serves as a sort of crowd-sourced box office predictor. "Investors" have it valued at a predicted $35.6 million domestic gross, which is indeed pretty bad. For what it's worth, they overestimated Jupiter Ascending by over $10 million but got Seventh Son right on the money.

The "pros" at Box Office Magazine are actually making a very similar $34 million projection.

For this time of year, that sounds reasonable for the opening week UFAlien, thanks.

This reminds me of Clash of the Titans also, only with much better 3D from the look of the trailer anyway.

Those aren't opening weekend estimates.

Those are TOTAL GROSS estimates.

Oh.
Well, hopefully it'll do better than that, but we'll find out soon enough.
Dredd 3D struggled with 6.3 million on its opening weekend.

That domestic gross prediction is brutal. If it pans out like that I'll be very disappointed.

If that weekend gets a snow storm, that will affect the box office for sure. I wonder if this would do better in the spring or summer, even with more competition?

The monsters at the end of the trailer, the giant sand lizard/snakes look convincing to me for the CGI, but I wonder if a different team worked on the gold statue gods.

For a movie like this with so many CG heavy shots, a lot of it would have been farmed out to different vendors, so imagine many different companies have done the VFX for this.

yeah, dredd didn't do did well in the box office due to the fact that it was released in theaters in 3d and those who wanted to see in 2d were denied the opportunity, it was a very underrated film and the 3d was very good.

I remember my theaters showed the 2D versions also of Dredd, but that is too bad some theaters didn't get a choice, since not everyone can see in 3D due to eye issues.
