Just trying that, I just moved the cursor to the attachment area (it actually went there by default), clicked it and it asked me if I wanted to save it. I said yes and then found the screencap (from Wipeout HD, the test photo I used) in the photos section. When the save it or not question popped up, it showed a thumbnail of the picture. I also tried "no" seeing if it would just display the pic without saving it but that just left me at the message box. I didn't try the triangle or any other ways of trying to display it.

Okay, this is what I did and I also did another test, this time with a longer message, to see how it would be.
I sent myself a test message with a photo attached. I went to the mailbox, clicked on the message and it brought up the message box. With a one line message that would fit in the box shown, the cursor was over the attachment area so all I had to do was click it to see the thumbnail and save it. With a longer message that wouldn't all fit in the message box area displayed, the cursor defaults to highlighting the message area. So, I had to move the cursor to the attachment area before clicking. If I click the message area first so I'm in the text part of the box, I have to hit the back button before I can select the attachment area. Anyway, I don't see anything that could go wrong so I'm not sure what the deal is. Do you see the blinking selection box (should be blinking around either the text area or the attachment area) or if you're already selected the text area of the message, it'll probably just show an up and down arrow (if the message is longer than one screen)? |

You have to wait for the attachment to finish downloading before you can select to open it. So open the message and wait about 1 minute depending on the file size.

in order to be able to view/save the attachement, you must be in normal full XMB mode, not in-game XMB. Hope this helps

P.S. You don't have to "wait for the attachment to download". The message will not appear in your box until the attachment is downloaded. |

Are you opening the message while in game by hitting the PS3 button to get to the in game XMB? If so, then you cannot open the attachment. A friend had this problem and he could not open the attachment until he quit his game and opened the message again.

When friends send me a picture that is attached to a message, what I've done is open up the message and then click on the picture that is imbedded in the message. The picture is then saved in the "Photo" section of the XMB. You need to go to Photos and you will then see the picture that was attached to the message. I do not believe you and see the picture within the message itself, but must first save it to your Photo library. Hope this helps.
