It's an extremely unfortunate situation with Money From Home. And one that could've easily been avoided if the right people had been listened to.

My current thinking is that we need to get more proactive with requesting 3D titles before plans are put in place for 2d release. I'm glad people care enough to talk about boycotts and petitions even if these are options of last resort.

I also feel that while there's a loose-knit global community of enthusiasts interested in older 3D titles, we need to sustain that as much as possible and keep everybody on board, because eventually that may be the only way it is possible to get some of these movies restored. Enough of us were able to raise/contribute the money necessary for September Storm to be restored, and I hope we can do it again.

I don't know if that's the answer for Money From Home, but I certainly hope we haven't heard the last of it as a 3D movie.

Unfortunetly it's too late for the Olive release. But don't give up yet. The people at the 3-D archive don't give up easily.

It's probably screwed for 10 more years or however long Olive's license runs. Maybe one day we will get to see it.

That petition will be as useful as bag full of tapeworms. I love 3D too but you need to stop thinking 5 signatures will do anything.

The best way to stop what happened to Money From Home (1954) is to buy Inferno (1953) from Twilight Time and Those Redheads From Seattle (1953) from Kino Lorber. Sales receipts are the best way to sign a petition.

3dluver29 I appreciate your passion but....Robert (Bob) Furmanek who had a release on Olive in 3D called Dragonfly Squadron had been trying for years to make this happen. On another forum he urged us to move on. Olive has responded to Facebook posts and emails stating that they wanted to get this out for an anniversary and even liked a post that congratulated it being 2D only.

On a positive note a foreign release could maybe be a possibility...

I agree with Revgen; the only way to encourage more 3-D releases is to vote with your wallet. Buy Twilight Time's Inferno (even if you already have the Panamint release) and Kino's Those Redheads from Seattle. Shun Olive's flat release of Money from Home, and send them an e-mail to (politely) let them know of the sale they've lost in their rush to release the film.

We'll just have to wait and see regarding an international release of Money from Home.

Money From Home's OAR is 1.37:1, not widescreen.

Per Bob Fumanek's 5-28-17 post # 6489 over @ HTF's "Aspect Ratio Documentation thread":
Quote:
In case anyone asks and for the record: MONEY FROM HOME is not a widescreen film.

It was composed and photographed during principal photography (March/April 1953) for 1.37:1.

Olive's got some explaining to do. Shatters confidence in their abilities if they are going about cropping things and then claiming "restored" status.

Is there confirmation for that? ... Are Olive actually releasing it in erroneously cropped widescreen format?

Not that I'll be buying it either way. Labels need to realise the damage they do to their reputation when they put out films with such a lack of respect to how they were intended to be seen. To be honest, I sorta feel that the more they mess up this release, the greater the potential for a corrected 3D release, should that ever become a possibility.

Nothing's been released yet, hence words like "if"

Of course cryptic implications from insiders like Robert Furmanek and the originator of this post beg for between the line reading and realizing it could be a distinct possibility.

Olive Films is really showing their true colors. They're claiming they're releasing it flat in order to get it out as soon as possible, but the only real reason is pure GREED! They are just too d*mn cheap to pay the modest costs for a 3D master and restoration. And all our protestations and threats of boycotts matters not to them. To them, we're just a small group of internet nuts that will have little effect on their bottom line.

I'm probably going to catch a lot of flak for this post, but I just feel it had to be said.

well said, T. Warren Scollan, Olive Films is trying to rip us off by releasing it in a incorrect aspect ratio and in 2d only, they claim they releasing it on blu ray in widescreen, which they are, the correct aspect ratio should be 1.37:1, that's the way that it was originally intended to be seen.

Olive Films has really screwed up this movie and their release.

I appreciate that you are willing to examine all aspects of a situation, 3D Luver 29, but you may be overthinking things a bit.

If Paramount and/or Hal Wallis secured the paid legal right to do an adaptation, then the rights surely remain beyond all dispute. The legal heirs of Damon Runyon could present no impediment to a full-on stereoscopic restoration of Money from Home.

I know enough of the situation to be satisfied that the parties releasing this to Blu-Ray in 2-D "wide screen" simply balked at the additional expense of 3-D scanning and restoration, marginal though that expense would be. I could say more, but my remarks would probably not be entirely charitable or constructive.

Most of the discussion here on Money from Home took place in the Golden Age 3-D Features thread when the Best Buy pre-order first went up. Read here if you're interested:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...9#post13501229

What we learned is that Bob Furmanek and the 3-D Film Archive orchestrated a seriously discounted 3D restoration rate for the film back in 2014, but Olive declined the offer. They prefer to use the existing 2D master, made 10 years ago for DVD and HDTV. In other words, we aren't getting a Blu-ray 3D because Olive Films doesn't value 3D and can use the old master without spending an extra dime. We've all e-mailed them and expressed our disappointment in their decision, but they remain set in stone to release their 2D version. There's nothing else that can be done for the film at this point in time.

Someone here must have really good Karma, because I’ve certainly done nothing to deserve all these gifts that Kino and Bob and the 3DFA team are dropping on us.
