Default How Important Is The Rewatchability Factor?

When you are contemplating buys, how important is the potential Rewatchability Factor for titles? I'm sure some people buy a title just to see the movie and then quickly flip it, but others, like me, give serious consideration before purchasing to whether or not there seems to be enough appeal for more than one watch. Even with blind buys I do some (hopefully) spoiler free research and try my best to gauge whether there will be repeat value in a title or not. I just can't fathom building a dusty collection of a lot of Blus I'll only watch once.

How about you? Do you make a conscious effort to gauge this when deciding to buy or not buy?

Rewatchability isn't particularly important. At best it will somewhat impact how much I'm willing to pay but it don't really think all that much about it with regard to the buy/don't buy decision itself.

It's a lot like books. When buying a book I don't really think all that much about how many times I'm going to read it over the next X number of years and they tend to pile up as a result.

Which I'm pretty okay with. If I only bought books I was planning on rereading multiple times I would have read far fewer books over the course of my life and I would have missed out on a lot of books that did wind up rereading many times.

rewatchability is huge with me. Why buy something just to have it sit on your shelf. If i'm only going to watch it once, i can just rent it or stream it.

It's the #1 factor for me...which is good because it keeps my collection within reason. I take a honest look at everything I have and after I watch something I ask myself...did that hold up if it was something I liked when I was younger or for the first time will it be something I will honestly want to watch not just once more, but at least five or more times.

I just want my collection to be filled with comfort movies not because it won a academy award for best picture or some critic said it was the most awesome piece of work ever but because it means something to me personally or for whatever reason it makes me feel good every time I pop it in.

I always consider the multiple viewing possibilities when buying, otherwise I just rent them from Netflix if there's any doubt at all.

It's probably the most important factor for me. I buy films that I like and will want to watch more than once.

Doesn't matter at all to me, really. I'm totally fine watching a movie just once. Obviously, I watch many movies more than that, but I'm also sure I have many that I'll never revisit.

It's an important factor, but if something is cheap enough, or there's a blind buy that sounds appealing I'll purchase it.

Hugely important; no matter how great a movie is, if it's not something I'll rewatch at least once or twice a year, I generally won't buy it.

The only exceptions to this that jump out in my collection are Schindler's List and 12 Years a Slave, and both are because they won Best Picture. There are of course blind-buys, but I usually wait til those are cheap, and if I don't like them or don't think they're rewatchable, they don't stay in my collection very long.

It comes right after Watchability

So it's the second most important.

It's not important to me at all. My wife and I hardly ever go to the movies anymore because of our different work schedules. I can buy a blu ray for less than the cost of a couple movie tickets.

The rewatchability factor is important to me. I only purchase Blu-rays if I think that I'm going to want to see them multiple times.

A lot of Blu-rays in my collection are better than others, but my success rate with purchasing movies that I want to watch again several times after my first viewing is about 100%.

Whether or not I'll actually have time to rewatch all of them multiple times is another question altogether.

If I buy a Blu-ray and watch it only to decide that it will collect dust on my shelf, then I still spent less that I probably would have on a movie ticket.

I have a dwindling un watched pile I'm working on right now. I buy and keep (90% of purchases) because the resale value is low OR you have to deal with potentially crooked online buyers to recoup more costs. I'm fortunate to have space at this time and can afford to keep movies on the off chance I'll rewatch the robocop remake/reboot etc. I try to stick with PV/used purchases to keep the money hit under a little more control if I don't like something.

For me, it's less about rewatchability and more about how much it's on my mind. I may not watch Titanic or Braveheart that often, but I would never want to part with them, they're essentials in my collection. But I seem to watch Troll 2 like a fiend for some reason. I know if I got rid of it, I'd miss it, so I keep it and keep on watching.

See? No correlation.

Desirable, but I'm happy to pay £9.99 or whatever for the experience - i.e. to be able to watch something in the highest possible quality first time around.

It doesn't really matter to me. 99.9% of new release purchases are blind buys for me. If I do not like it, I just sell it.

Rewatchability is important. I used to blind buy and flip, but that didn't make that much economic sense. I'll still blind buy the occassional classic title that I'm sure I'll like, but if in doubt I'll seek it out on Netflix, or TCM, or some of the other cable and streaming movie options, even the public library just to make sure it's something I want to watch again.

Yeah, that's a big part of it for me too. I used to triage movies by 'gotta see this in a theater/wait for DVD/meh, wait for cable' and BD has almost exclusively replaced seeing things in theaters.

I still DVR stuff and rent BDs but I've got no problem throwing a few bucks at (even questionable) blind buys either.

Very important and just like books and music. I only buy stuff I'll revisit or pass on to friends and family if it's something they'd like. And it's really important to have good titles around for my kids to discover as they get older....
