Default What Is The Best TV Drama Of All-Time?

What, in your opinion, is the best TV drama of all time?

I narrowed it down to these 4 because it would very likely have come down to them anyways.

The Wire
Sopranos
Deadwood
Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad. I can't think of many shows that had complete runs that are better.

Game of Thrones, although not yet finished, is a serious candidate.

Okay, top 5 TV dramas:

1) Breaking Bad. Because seeing some sickly, dying working man work his way with all he has and learns to become successful to the point it consumes him and he enjoys it...we all want that.

2) Game of Thrones. Much as I hate to say it, if there's ever a televised medieval fantasy that manages to push its way to the end and get successful enough to change the TV-scape forever...it's this show when it finishes in 2, 3 years (ideally). And I am a medieval fantasy ***** at heart.

3) Walking Dead. Say what you will. First season was amazing for being a six-episode miniseries created by Frank Darabont of Shawshank Redemption and The Mist fame. Second and third seasons were the weaker entries into it. Then from season four on, it steadily got better and better unto now. Another game-changer in the TV-scape because (even if it isn't finished yet) it's brought a level of gruesome content never seen before to it.

4) Justified. Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder...best outlaw in any TV show I have seen and probably will see. And every episode I could tune in to see him doing his thing was a joy to me. Another show with a spectacular finale that played out as I expected it to.

5) Farscape. Okay, this is technically a sci-fi show, but it's pretty dramatic. Love the special effects (even the CGI holds up decently still). Love the writing/dialogue. But moreso? I love the characters. John Crichton alone is one of the best SFF characters I've seen. This show is what got me into sci-fi overall. Not Battlestar Galactica. Not Star Trek. Not Babylon 5. This show.

Runners up that came close: Sons of Anarchy, Rome, Babylon 5, The Sopranos, The Wire.

I don't even really like these, but it's probably gotta be between them (not putting in series that have not ended or are less than 5 years old):

Band of Brothers
The Sopranos
Mad Men
24
Breaking Bad
ER
NYPD Blues
The Shield

My personal picks would include some amount of supernatural/ Sci Fi (which would probably got them disregarded):
The X-Files
Twin Peaks
Fringe
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Carnivale

If I had to pick -1-

Best of all time with guessed consensus: The Sopranos

My personal pick: Twin Peaks (DS9, Fringe and X-Files close behind)

Thread should be re-titled best of the 90's and 2000s. Calling it best of all time and only having those 4 choices is ridiculous. Not that any of them don't deserve to be there, but they are all recent. You must be very young.

Others that should be in the discussion are:

Carnivale
CSI
ER
Firefly
Hill Street Blues
Law & Order
M*A*S*H
NYPD Blue
Rockford Files
Sports Night
Twilight Zone
Twin Peaks
West Wing
X-Files

If its down to only four, Deadwood has to be replaced with Mad Men.

Breaking Bad
Mad Men
The Sopranos
The Wire

Those are the 4.
