Just yesterday I was thinking, 'When are Shameless going to release anything else on Blu-ray?'

Anyway, cool announcement. I've never seen the film but I love Argento and it's one I've been curious about for a while.

yeh I thought shameless had given up Blu-ray releases too, so great news as it can only mean more titles for us
hope they can do some good releases

I like Shameless but it seems there's always a major flaw with each of their discs. I own three of the four Blu-rays they've already released. The New York Ripper is cut (admittedly not their fault) and the attempts to mask the cuts are pretty terrible, Cannibal Holocaust has mediocre picture quality and Four Flies on Grey Velvet has that bizarre audio glitch. I do want to see them do well because they're an indie label with the rights to some great films. I just think they need to step up their game.

I'll probably pick this one up over Code Red's release. Will probably wind up being cheaper (even to import it) and easier to get ahold of. We'll see when it gets closer to the release date though.

I would have preferred The Church. The Sect is a bit rubbish imo with a terrible cough/splutter performance from Herbert Lom. Not sure if I'll pick this one up.

When Camera Obscura released their excellent dvd edition, they stated that there were no suitable materials for a HD release, unfortunately.

Yep, and it could destroy your speakers (no joke). The Koch release, whilst not perfect is much much better.

Generally speaking, the English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 is very strong. In fact, its dynamic amplitude is amongst the best I've heard on a Blu-ray release of a film from the '70s. During the short rehearsal sessions, for instance, the music has excellent depth and energy. There is no strong background hiss to report in this review either. This being said, there are a couple of volume fluctuations that should have been addressed. The most problematic ones are at the end of the film, during the crash scene. For a short period of time, the sound gets surprisingly loud; there are high-frequency distortions and even a couple of dangerous sound spikes as well. Interestingly enough, the distortions are not present on the Italian DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track. It is also worth mentioning that there are a few small portions of Italian dialog throughout the film where in addition to the volume fluctuations there are also small pops and cracks. Despite the issue described above, however, the audio treatment also represents a major upgrade in quality.

This. At least The Church is entertaining in parts. As I will never buy anything from Code Red, I'm waiting for a European release of The Church. "La Setta" or The Sect is truly a drag of a film and I've never been able to finish it awake.

The two Shameless releases I own (Cannibal Holocaust & Four Flies) are great releases though.

Cannibal Holocaust Shameless BD, whilst CUT (by 15 secs with the 15 secs replaced by reaction shots of actors), is good for the extras, BUT you'll need either of the 2 LE Austrian XT BDs for the TOTALLY UNCUT version (which INCLUDES the 10 secs missing from all other BD releases) as well as the Grindhouse BD for the extras.
