Default 'Ground Floor' - A New Comedy By Bill Lawrence, TBS

Quote:
Bill Lawrence- Greg Malins Comedy ‘Ground Floor’ Gets Series Order At TBS

EXCLUSIVE: The week keeps getting better for Bill Lawrence. After getting a series pickup at Fox for Surviving Jack on Wednesday and at NBC for Undateable earlier this morning, he also just received a series order for comedy pilot Ground Floor at TBS, which recently renewed his Cougar Town. Ground Floor, which the Scrubs and Cougar Town creator wrote with former Friends and How I Met Your Mother executive producer Greg Malins, is a workplace comedy with a romantic twist that stars Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect), Briga Heelan (Cougar Town) and John C. McGinley (Scrubs). Ground Floor, which has received a 10-episode order for a 2014 launch, is being produced by Lawrence’s Doozer in association with Warner Horizon TV, with Lawrence and Jeff Ingold serving as executive producers. This marks a second series pickup for Heelan today, who also has a supporting role on Undateable. She is in first position on Ground Floor but, given the fact both series hail from the same studio and producer, it is conceivable that she might do both. TBS’ other comedy pilot, Do It Yourself, remains in contention.

Set in the modern world of corporate America, Ground Floor centers on Brody (Astin), a young hot-shot banker at Whitestone Trust who thought he was just having a one-night stand with Jennifer (Heelan), a beautiful woman he met at a bar. But when he discovers that she works in maintenance for the building where he works, their worlds begin to collide in the most unexpected way. Facing Brody’s critical boss, Mr. Mansfield (McGinley), as well as annoyed colleagues, the pair must find a way to deal with their growing feelings for each other in this modern take on Romeo & Juliet. Starring as Jennifer’s co-workers in the building’s maintenance office are Rory Scovel as Harvard, a know-it-all who’s secretly enamored with her; James Earl as Derrick, who brings a laid-back quality to the office; and Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect) as Tori, a sexy young woman who loves to hit the clubs every night. In addition, Rene Gube stars as Brody’s colleague Threepeat, a money manager in love with his hair gel. “Ground Floor is a smart and extremely funny comedy that blends workplace humor with relatable romantic entanglements,” said TBS head of programming Michael Wright. Lawrence is with ICM Partners.

Don't know if anyone else is watching, but I actually find this show pretty amusing.

I've been watching it and think it's decent, better than most of this year's new sitcoms. John C. McGinley has to be having a pretty easy time with his role because he's pretty much just playing Dr. Cox from Scrubs (another Bill Lawrence show). I'm not a huge fan of Skylar Astin, he was probably my least-favorite actor in Pitch Perfect and I'm not really liking him here, but the rest of the cast is likeable enough. Unfortunately this show has not gotten good ratings so there's a good chance it's a one season show.

One of the reasons I watch.

The episode with Anna Camp and the Britney Spears duet was pretty funny.

Overall I enjoyed the first season. It's a pretty formulaic comedy but overall it was still decent. Hopefully it gets another season. The ratings weren't great but it seems like a pretty cheap show to make since there's only a couple sets and no special effects.

Not a ground breaking 30 minute comedy by any means, but it has a lot of funny moments. Plus, Briga Heelan, who plays Jennifer, is freaking drop dead gorgeous.

TBS has reportedly canceled Ground Floor.

Quote:
TBS has cancelled Bill Lawrence’s underrated workplace sitcom, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The show’s Feb. 10 Season 2 closer will now serve as its series finale.
In an update to the story TBS says they have not officially canceled the show, but that just seems like a matter of semantics as TBS likely didn't want news of the cancellation to break before the end of the current season.

John C. McGinley has confirmed this, and he's not happy...

Quote:
To: All "@GroundFloorTBS fans
I am f**king devastated, that our show has been cancelled.
I am really f**king upset, right now.
I. Am. Sorry.
Man, I'm so bummed out.

How was it ever supposed to catch on without any decent distribution in this day and age?
