Caught a morning screening and I loved it. It won't please everyone, lovers of jump-scares and mainstream horror will hate it, but for those who like their horror films to have some intelligence and originality about it are in for a treat. However, it might owe a wee bit to Anti Christ. And it's got Finchy from The Office in it!
Special mention to the hare who stole the show for me. Can't wait for the blu so I can see it without teenagers running out of the screening once they realised that it was a period piece. |

Literally just out of the door on the way to see this. I love my horrors with a bit of originality and I can't wait to see it.

Yeah, but if you're going to see Shakespeare, you probably have some familiarity with the play that carries you through any language issues. I've only seen a couple, and I made sure to read them first. With The Witch, I found myself struggling to understand the language at times, and I'm looking forward to watching it with subtitles. According to Amazon, the US version will have them. And actually, the Amazon UK listing states that there are English subs for the hearing impaired, which is better than nothing.

Also lets not forget the deaf or hard of hearing. I think UK releases should have minimum an English HOH track, but ideally as many subtitle language options that are available. |

It's great when everyone else can make better points you were making than yourself.
![]() Does no one think the authenticity of the film would have been lost if they forced subtitles in the theatrical version, especially with it being a horror film. Yeah, the whole "One Hath Dost" lingo got a bit hard to fit my head a round, but I was never confused as to what they were saying. It's not like A Field in England where I was generally having to rewatch parts just to get a simple grasp of what the blazes some people were chatting (and either then, subtitles would have tuned that). Plus, if you're after subtitles, is that taking the old English speech and changing it to modern language? Isn't that just ruining the whole intention if the film regardless? Considering at the end the film explicitly says it was formed from many authentic writing and stories. And if the subtitles would have just reiterated the old English dialogue with all "One Hath Dost", would it really help you guys? Is it just the accents that were the problem? Like when they originally had Kes released with subtitles back in 60's. My opinion is you don't like the dialogue, don't pick up the film. |
