Default Do you buy movies with no special features?

The other day I was in the grocery store and was excited to see a bunch of James Bond films for 3.99 new, not used. I bought about 4 Bond films on blu ray for that price and 3 of them mentioned the special features in the back but Skyfall had no special features listed on the back and thought it might just have been a mistake and that special features were included. When I played Skyfall I was wrong and like the back states there are no special features. When I bought The Graduate for the same price a few months ago the back just listed Blu ray and a dvd copy included with no special features. On the dvd of The graduate it happened to be the 40th anniversary edition with the special features on there so I thought Skyfall might be similar where they forgot to mention the special features. For 3.99 I can't complain but I love special features and have even bought certain blu ray's or dvd's because of the inclusion of them. Do people buy blu ray's with no special features and do not care if it is a bare bones blu? I tend to care about special features but would make exceptions for certain movies if I truly loved the film and that was the only way to get it on blu.

I can live with or without them as long as the PQ/AQ is good. But in those instances, the product better be priced accordingly.

I normally buy based on the movie alone. Special features are nice to have as much as possible. Some titles I own I wish there were more or at least some making stuff on such as The Edge, Quantum Of Solace and most recently Spectre.

I certainly care about bonus features, but owning a film in HD on physical media sometimes supercedes that. The two-disc DVD edition of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is one of the best home video releases of all time -- it's jam-packed with commentaries and documentaries -- but sure, I'd pounce on a blu-ray version of the film even if it was just the movie.

On the other hand, I would have completely ignored the new release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs because the new bonus content is rather insipid, but I picked it up for the digital copy. Now I can go have a dentist torture my mouth and I can watch Snow White in the waiting room on my iPad.

Thanks for mentioning how good 20,000 leagues is on dvd I might have to buy it since you mentioned it has so many special features.

I agree about wanting the PQ/AQ to be good especially if there are no special features. Also agree about the pricing.

If a BD is bare-bones, I'll typically wait for it to show up in a bargain bin.

I hate it when significant special features aren't carried over from the DVD or previous Blu-ray to a new edition. I'm upgrading, damn it, I should be able to free up some shelf space and sell the previous ones off!

So the movie is most important to you and special features are secondary to you. It seems that most of the James Bond films have good special features that's why I was surprised that the copy of Skyfall that I bought had none.

Agree with you about disliking the fact that special features are not carried over from the DVD or previous blu ray edition. I am so glad I bought a used copy of Sleeping Beauty on blu ray a few years ago for 5.99 it was the one with all the special features included. The new edition was missing many of the special features. Since I only started buying blu ray's 2 years ago I missed many of the Disney films that are now in the vault. I want to get Snow White but the new one is missing many of the bonus features from the first blu ray edition. I heard the first bluray is missing some of the dvd features but at least it has more than the new one. Someday I will buy a used copy of the first Snow White blu ray.

All the time, I never get around to watching special features so its last on my list when deciding on a purchase.

Of coarse I buy barbone blu-rays, because I never watch the special features anyway. I only want the movie! I could careless about the cast & crew interviews, comments, behind the scenes, documentaries, the making of the film and so forth. The time you've spent watching all of that junk, I can be watching another movie.

It depends on the movie and the special feature...I prefer movies from the 30s, 40s and 50s...

If they have a true special feature, I will spring for the extras...

If the special feature is some self-appointed "expert" talking about what the long dead director's or actor's intentions were, I won't spend extra for it...

I would prefer a properly restored film with great PQ & AQ than anything else.

Bonus features rarely figure into my decision as to whether I'll buy a Blu-ray. It's the film I want and the extras are indeed only a "bonus" which I rarely get round to watching anyway. Great PQ/SQ are far more important to me.

This. Sometimes I will buy a barebones BD if I don't own the dvd yet, but never for the full price.

I almost never watch the special features so, if I can and it is cheaper yes...How many green screen fx features can be tolerated? But almost of my friends watch each and every one so I am in the minority I'd guess...

If there's a "movie-only" version of the Blu and another version with special features, I get the one with special features. (Not counting stuff re-released by Criterion, Shout, etc. I take those on a case-by-case basis. I mean Blus released and re-released by the same studio.)

If the DVD had special features but the Blu doesn't, I wait for the Blu to drop in price.

Entertainment Weekly chose it as the DVD release of the year. The making of doc alone runs almost as long as the movie, and that's just the beginning.

Very rarely. And it ticks me off when a release is barebones yet you can find promotional and making of material on youtube or online. I know they need to license these things and often they aren't in HD quality, but I like to have this material included.

Agree with this. I don't care too much about special features (although I always try to get the best version) unless it is something truly 'special'. It's very easy to find the typically fluff specials on YouTube, so why does it matter if those are on the disc.
