Default True black from a DLP, is is possible?

I'm currently using a Samsung 61" DLP model: HL-R6168W.
This TV has a very nice picture and Blu-ray movies look excellent.

I have calibrated the TV and I think it's probably as good as it's going to get but when watching a wider presentation the top and bottom bars are just slightly gray instead of a true black.

Is it possible to get true black from my DLP display?
The TV has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio.

P.S. Is my TV 1080P?
The Samsung brochure says yes and the native res is 1920 x 1080 but others have told me that it's not!?
Here's a brochure for my TV with all the specs:

Thanks,
Zak

Per your brouchure, your set is 1080p. The stated 10,000:1 contrast ratio is dynamic, and does not indicate how well your set does black. I've never owned a DLP set, so I can't tell you whether or not you'll get your bars blacker than you have them. Are you happy with the picture? If so, I wouldn't worry about the bars.

i have never seen a true black on a dlp set.the closest i have seen to a true black on a dlp though is on the new samsung led dlp sets that they have out now. the black levels on the led driven dlp sets are greatly improved over the bulb driven dlp sets.

just calibrate your set until you are happy with it.

Does the tv have a power save mode? This will provide a little darker picture and improve black level slightly(does on my sony 60a3000 sxrd rptv). Also, does the tv have an adjustable iris. My tv has an iris that closes down to provide better contrast. It has auto settings and static manual settings. If it has an iris that you can change the settings on try setting it to minimum or low, this will also provide a better black level if you have that option for settings on your tv.
