I saw the first and it gave me no compelling reason to watch the second. I definitely found it very slow whereas the BBC Sherlock is more engrossing through the way they incorporate things like the Mind Palace.

[Show spoiler] I will say that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman make a fantastic Holmes & Watson combo, but Andrew Scott is just annoying as Moriarty and not intimidating in the least. I didn't like RDJ's Holmes at first, but both films grew on me as they're both fun and fast paced and I like the traditional Victorian setting, particularly with the steampunk-esque touches.

I do hope to eventually see this come to fruition, but I'm not going to hold my breath on it. We've had a lot of murmurs and false starts over the last few years, so I have a hard time buying into news any time it comes out. Here's hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. |

Harry Potter is seemingly more popular because of its appeal to children. My personal opinion about the Sherlock Holmes films with Downey (which also means nothing because you have no idea whether I'm an idiot or brilliant) is that they're fun films and they're beautifully shot, but they try to turn Holmes into a superhero, which is a far cry from the character that Doyle created. On the other hand, they do get into the psychology of the character and his resulting addiction as well as his sexual ambiguity in terms of his love for Watson. For my money, I don't need any big action set pieces in a Holmes story. I just need a brilliantly creative and engaging mystery that Holmes solves with brilliant logic. But in today's movie environment, that will never happen. There has to be a lot of action to get the little boys (of any age) into the theater. |

Sometimes I don't think people realize these Sherlock Holmes films are actually more based on a graphic novel series than the Doyle books. The comics were more action adventures stories, and that's what WB went with. The BBC series is more like the novels. I'll take both adaptations, because they're both good at what they set out to do, and at the end of the day, that's allI care about.

Agreed but as an actor portraying Sherlock Holmes, I prefer Benedict Cumberbatch. He comes off more as a cold person, not necessarily a sociopath (though I feel like BBC is portray him that way) he just doesn't let his emotions cloud his judgment. This is why I think Cumberbatch does a better job of portraying Sherlock.
