Default looking for suggestions on new speakers

Are there good quality sounding speakers out there that aren't expensive? I'm not looking for cheap HTIB or soundbars, but an actual 5, or 7, speaker set that doesn't cost over $600.

It's for a small apartment bedroom setting so I don't need anything that will blow the windows out.

The speakers I used to have connected are nearly 20 years old from a JBL HTIB that have lasted far longer than I could have reasonably expected. I even have some older Optimus surround cubes from radio shack that are still working.

I'm looking for something current.

Any ideas?

Here's the rest of the system:

TV = Samsung UN50JU7100 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model)
Sound bar = Polk Audio N1 39-Inch Bluetooth Soundbar (looking to retire)
Receiver = Sony STRDG820 7.1 Audio Video Receiver - Black (Discontinued by Manufacturer) - still works
Blu Ray player = PS4

I'll eventually get a 4K player when they come down in price.

3 sets of CB-20 from Energy, Use one of them as a center, they are out of center channels but for the money it's hard to get better than this. You can use the spare one in a 6.1 configuration in which case you connect the 6th speaker in the back left surround and tell your receiver you only have 6 speaker so all back surrounds content will go to that speaker.

Do you need a Sub?

I should still have a sub somewhere, just have to dig it out of storage.

How does the sound from those speakers compare to other well known (at least to me anyway) brands?

For example like Polk.

Hey there darev if your budget is no more than $600 I myself have polks eventually I will get some really high end speakers but for now there incredible you can see my current setup in my gallery the same speakers that I'm recommending to you are the same exact ones I have I got the for around the same price couple years ago from newegg but if you want the best bang for your buck then this is a great option I believe the total is just over $500 but I no you don't want something massive but I would recommend if your gonns get some future proof your system in case you move you'll want something bigger the sub woofer is also a huge part of the system so if you would want to go say $75 over budget a great band for your buck would be BIC subs Polk has ok subs there cheap but there mediocre imo.

Warmer although those are a little more forward than previous generation. Energy use to be a boutique type of Speakers company bought out by Klipsch group and then purchased by Audiovox but the speakers are still designed and engineered in Canada.

I suggest you read thru the Energy owner thread and find out more about them

This. Just ordered some Polk Monitor 65T's for 149 each, Newegg. The Monitor 60's are essentially the same speaker, except I wanted the tweet on top. That Amazon deal is VERY GOOD.

I currently have the Energy Take classic 5.0 set up ( with a KLH E10 sub ) ,and for the price of the Energy,, they work superbly.
(Within the next few weeks ill be upgrading mine to the SVS Prime bookshelves, center, and adding a SVS PB1000.. keeping 2 of the rear energys as surrounds)

Thank you all for your suggestions/thoughts.

I think it will come down to if I can find a better deal between Polk or Energy.

The Bose CineMate 15 home theater speaker system. A little pricey but delivers great audio, clear sound and massive bass.

Have you considered buying used ones?sure it's a hassle, but done correctly it could get you better sounding ones for the same buck as new ones goes for.

Hmmm...That's a brand I never heard of before last night. While it is intriguing, I went with some Polk speakers. I wound up needing to replace my sub woofer so I held off on getting surrounds. Even with only getting 4 items I spent a bit more than I planned on, but hopefully they'll last a good long time. I'll keep using my old ones until I want to plunk down more money.

Polk Audio PSW10
Polk Audio CS20 Center Channel Speaker
Polk Audio TSi300 Floorstanding Speaker
