My ex bought a Sony KDL32XBR6 yesterday @ Best Buy for $1,199 and I noticed it online @ Prestige Camera for $761. Amazon has it for $998. Circuit City has it online for $1,099. There are numerous online stores that have it a lot cheaper than Best Buy. Does anyone know Who will Best Buy price match?

Yea the rule is the store has to be close buy and the item has to be in the store also.
but they dont even follow the "item in the store" policy cause i always get priced matched with target online. i print out the movie from there online store and bring it BB and thats it, they never ask me, or call to if its in the store. (knock on wood)

BB blows. took them 2 hours to price match my TV and they only came close.
anyway, if you find a lower price from "in town" they will price match it. They work give you cash back or credit your CC, but in the form of a check you will receiver 4 weeks later. I like the idea of Target print out. You can get amazon prices in the Target format. I'm gonna start doing that, but i'm never shopping at BB again. |

Skip to bottom paragragh if you don't want to read a good way around the "in stock" policy.
Probably depends on your area but usually you can talk them out of the "in stock" crap. I work on commission and we always have to make sure the other place has it in stock but I do a few things to have that waived. I'll tell the customer that if the manager asks, it's in stock(usually works). I've had the managers actually call the store and ask if they have it(after i said they did) and they'll get a no. After that, I get yelled at. So, i tell my manager that they can order it so what's the difference they're gonna get it anyway? Also, what's stopping the customer from returning their t.v. and going elsewhere to get it even if it takes a week so they can save a couple hundred bucks(clinches it 95% of the time)? Now if the managers are REALLY being stubborn, i'll ask them if they're seriously going to let store profit walk out the door and hand it to the competition just so you can follow some stupid rule? You know as well as i do that if you deny them, they will get upset and go to the other place and never shop here again. What happened to "keep it sold" and "customer satisfaction/for life"(Never fails as a last attempt, i'm batting 1000%)? Now basically you can use all of the above as your advantage as a customer. The things that must apply for a price match would be: -Local Store(within 15 min of city limits usually) -Product must not be a marked down: Floor model, Return, Clearance or Closeout(and whatever else is in this category) -Cannot price match in other store bundles(usually), coupons, or special offers |

Your mileage may vary. Sometimes when I was a Magnolia Home Theater Salesman I was able to match internet stores if they had a similar 30-days-no-questions-asked return policy, and if I factored in shipping costs. This was not always common, but the odds go up in your favor if you are buying more profitiable things too (ie Installation services, 4 year Performance Plan, Monster Cables, Magnolia Home Theater Level Audio equipment, etc).
Best Buy might not always be the best price for everything, but I have found that when I was there, we were always very reasonable about not ripping off people. Sometimes it comes down to where the store just can't afford to let take the loss, especially with certain customers that really call the store like it's tech support and expect help, or return products for silly reasons. One year, the day after Christmas, I had a customer want to return a TV they bought because even though the salesman showed them it would go up to channel 135, it didn't get past channel 37 on their TV and they didn't want to use a cable box... I explained to them that they needed a digital cable box for their digital channels, etc... they sort of believed me, but said they wanted to trade the TV for new ones anyway... so, bottom line is, we took the TV's back, sold them at least 15% of what their price was, and they bought 2 cheaper TV's - for nothing. If they had ordered from Ted's Plasma Shoppe dot Com, they probably would have been told to call Tech Support for the TV's they bought, and if they wanted to return they would have had to pay shipping back and possibly restocking because the TV's weren't defective. One way or another, they find a way to get you ![]() |
