Maybe JB isn't going to stock them. I'm not seeing the logic of the software distributors selling these in Australia without there being a single locally available 4K/UHD player for sale. Sure if Samsung had released a player in Australia like in the U.S then JB could have put out a big demo display with their biggest T.V and the player showing off one of the titles and maybe the average person who's got 4K T.V might show some interest. As it is only those who have bought a player from overseas or are looking to future proof their collection are likely to buy - and at premium prices to. Sure any new disc format will be slow to catch on but selling a new high end format but not having a player available to play them on seems crazy.

Customer: "So what are these" JB staff: "4K Blurays - they will look amazing on your 4K T.V" Customer: "Oh cool I have a 4K T.V. So I can play them on my Blu-Ray player" JB: "Ummm...no" Customer: "Ohhh...well what can I play them on?" JB: "Umm...nothing we sell...yet" Customer: "Okay...so when can I buy a player to play them on then" JB: "Um we don't know yet" Customer: "So why should I buy it?" JB: "For when you do buy a player sometime in the future?!? Plus it comes with a Blu-Ray copy to watch in the meantime" Customer: "Or I can just buy the Blu-Ray copy much cheaper and worry about 4K when I can actually watch them" |

I've read that rumour, but haven't seen anything definitive to support it.

They are finally up on JB's website:
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-...133_s&fm=false The Fox UHD titles are expensive, however the Roadshow/WB titles are quite reasonably priced. Lego Movie is currently listed for $19.98, and San Andreas and Mad Max: Fury Road are priced at $24.98 each. |

I was just walking past my local Sanity, and decided to drop in to check if they had the 6 due out this week in yet, which they did. They hadn't even unpacked them. They only received one of each. The lady behind the counter wouldn't allow me to take a photo. They come in 14mm thick cases the same as standard local Blu-ray's. None had slip covers.

I went back to Sanity, there was a different lady there, so I asked her if I could take a photo of one:

JB stores have had the stock for a few days, but staff have been informed not to put them out on the shelves, they are keeping them out the back until the players are released. If you want to purchased them, you need to ask, and they will grab them from the back for you. This is what I was told yesterday.

![]() http://www.smh.com.au/technology/gad...28-gogw0v.html If they do go this route (keeping stock out the back), they will miss out on a few sales. For there shall be customers who might ask about the UHD BD label, and can then get informed about UHD BD (bunch of technical savages in this country). Thus, the savvy consumer might just choose to purchase a UHD BD copy, rather than the BD, to future proof (as I am) as all 4K titles thus far have 1080pBD copy, and will for some time to come (if not always). JB might also make an upsale to a 4K TV, if people know the technology is coming soon to be able to actually watch native 4K (apart from using Netflix). ![]() I know Goodgear.com.au said May for Samsung UHD BD players: http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/arti...s-locally-may/, but have yet to see any further evidence of the May deadline occurring. Not even Samsung's website has any inkling or hint of a player debuting. Last edited by Rick Grimes; 05-05-2016 at 04:16 AM. |

For those in Sydney wanting to pick up a UHD Blu-ray player, JB HiFi Castle Hill Home super store has 6 units of the Samsung UBD-K8500, Westfield Parramatta has 3, and Moore Park Home has 3 . Their priced is $596.

That's a nice price.. I was expecting much much closer to $1000 for the first batch of players. Kind of tempted, but my first Blu-Ray player was a Samsung, and it was shite!

The reviews of this unit are very very good. The only thing holding it back for future is the absence of Dolby Vision functionality.
