Arrow Warner Hammer Film Collection: Volume 2 is coming

thx to dsman71

Since Warner have confirmed that the Volume 2 is in the works (presumably in time for Halloween), I'm hoping for the stateside release of Horror of Dracula and The Curse of Frankenstein

Good, I was afraid the sales of the first would be too low to justify it. It could be a while unfortunately given the Curse of Frankenstein situation. I also wonder if they're allowed to use that restoration of Horror of Dracula with the restored footage?

This should be interesting. The UK Curse Of Frankenstein looks really quite ropey, & I don't like the look the very cold Horror Of Dracula, so let's see what Warner comes up with.

You can't see it, be thankful, but I'm doing a happy dance right now.

Other than the two aforementioned titles, Warner has Dracula A.D. 1972 and She. And I think they own the vault elements for The Satanic Rights of Dracula, which is usually released public domain.

Also, not sure what (if anything) is left of Warner's deal with Paramount, but that would give them Captain Kronos and Frankenstein: The Monster from Hell.

If we're talking non-horror movies ("She" really isn't one, besides the creepy makeup at the end), they have Moon Zero Two and When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth as well. I think the three Draculas and the Frankenstein is the most likely line-up as well, though. Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell or Captain Kronos in place of one of the Draculas would be nice (since both of them are far better than AD 1972 or Satanic Rites!), but yeah, I dunno how the Paramount thing works.

I knopw that AD 1972 and Satanic Rites aren't considered to be the greatest of the Dracula films, but I find both very entertaining (the desperate to be hip and instantly dated AD 1972 especially) and I would like to get the entire Dracula Hammer series on Blu eventually.

Never seen 1972, but Satanic Rites is watchable.

Curse of Frankenstein - I got a much better (though not perfect) picture out of the UK BD by tweaking the contrast and brightness on my tv. The 1.66:1 version used the wrong portion of the frame - the ratio is correct, just too low.

Dracula - very hard to get pleasing colours out of the UK transfer. Warners had a better (HD?) version on-demand a few years ago. The Warner dvd was hopeless.

I like AD 1972. Johnny Alucard, LOL. Plus the gorgeous Caroline Munro has a great scene
[Show spoiler]where she gives herself to Dracula.
It also sees the return of Peter Cushing as Van Helsing, which is a good thing.

The blu-ray in the UK is infamously ugly, to say nothing of the Aspect Ratio controversies. They said it was the only thing they could get for materials.

I think our only real hope with Scars of Dracula is if Studiocanal resumes their aborted Hammer line in the UK. If One Million Years BC sells well, it could be a start (though that one's so far out of the regular Hammer wheelhouse it might not, too).

I noticed that Curse of Frankenstein's DVD wasn't on WB's site anymore, so I presumed it would be a likely candidate for Criterion to release.
