Arrow Andrea Arnold's 'American Honey' (Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf)

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...-cannes-883952

Quote:
The film stars Sasha Lane, Shia Labeouf and Riley Keough.

Just hours after being officially selected for Cannes' main competition, the first look from Andrea Arnold's upcoming drama American Honey has been unveiled.

The film — which stars newcomer Sasha Lane, pictured in the image, as a teenager who runs away from home with a traveling sales crew — is the first to be shot in the U.S. by British director Arnold, whose films Fish Tank and Red Road both previously competed for the Palm d'Or, with both picking up jury prizes. Arnold also served on the Cannes jury herself in 2012.

Also starring Shia Labeouf, Riley Keough and a host of young actors in their onscreen debuts, American Honey is one of just three films from female directors in the 2016 main competition and one of two from the U.K. (alongside Ken Loach's I, Daniel Blake).

Written by Arnold, American Honey was produced by Lars Knudsen, Jay Van Hoy, Pouya Shahbazian, Alice Weinberg, Thomas Benski and Lucas Ochoa.

A24 has U.S. rights. Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales.

Easily my 2nd most anticipated of the year. If it even gets released this year.

Did anyone see the cast and crew dancing on the red carpet at Cannes? They all looked like they were having a ball, hopefully that's from having a great time filming it.

Arnold is one of the best directors working today. Fish Tank was a 100 best movie of all time. Can't wait for this.

If A24 bought it, it must be good. In A24 we trust.

I'm predicting an Oscar push as well.

I'm trapped in a circular logic loop. I can't stand Shia but love the director's prior work.

Not even gonna watch that. I can't watch trailers for films I'm desperate to see. I just can't! A few stills is about all I can muster.

I watched half and then stopped. From what I did see, damn it looks good. Arnold's name should be way bigger than it is. She is a masterful filmmaker.

I watched a lot of the footage of Cannes on YouTube so of course I've seen clips here and there but I've all but forgotten them but with Arnold and Robbie Ryan, as D.P. you know you're getting a visual treat.

I agree and this could be the film that gives her that break although I don't want her to start making bigger pictures she has made 4, 3 that I've seen and they've all been very good (Wuthering Heights) to outstanding (Red Road, Fish Tank). She is doing her thing the way she wants and it's working a treat. To real cinema fans she is more than known.

I don't think she will ever get really well known outside of the big cinema fan world, it's more I hate that such talented filmmakers don't get wide recognition while mediocre to poor filmmakers do. It's more the audiences fault because they would rather watch something loud and dumb than something like this. I'm not trying to sound snobby because I like loud and dumb sometimes as well, it's that most people won't even give movies like Arnold's a chance. Makes me sad.

Saw that trailer but chose not to post it because of the awful infomercial voice over.

Don't know what happened to the limited release for this film, but here's some positive reviews that get me excited.

It comes out in limited release this weekend.

Reviews are good, but the over 2 hrs 40 min runtime for a movie like this (small scale and essentially without plot according to reviews, and I like a lot of films like that but they are usually short as they can become painful watches with long running times) discourages me from seeing it at least theatrically.

Oh wow. Was unaware of the long runtime until now.

I never get to see indies on the big screen but I'm hoping I'll be able to make an exception for this one. Looks magic.
