Default Which is the 'untampered' UK French Connection Blu-ray

Hi.

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere (I found a thread asking for the best *international* release from 2013), but I'd like to know if the 'superior' version of FC is available in the UK, ie R2, and if so, which one is it?

Amazon have the FC 1&2 double pack *and* a 'special edition' in their 3 for £20 deal, and I'd like to buy the one without the colour problem (Amazon reviews are hard to decipher as they merge all versions)

Cheers in advance.

I don't think the newest remaster is available over here, it's on the US signature edition which you can pick up from allyourmusic through amazon for about £10, it is region free

I believe the better version was only released in the UK as a steelbook...

Thanks for the answers. Guess I'll be getting the U.S one.

The steelbook definitely is the newer master, it was covered in this thread:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=239577

Currently £9.99 on Zavvi. I know people moan about their packaging, but I've had a fair few steelbooks from them and they've always come in good condition. It's the amarays and boxes that tend to be damaged.

Zavvi are actually really good with steelbooks and also pricy box sets (anything worth about £20 or more). Steelbooks always come in foam wrapper in a card box, and the last few box sets I got from them arrived both with tracking and in thicker card mailers.

Despite recently buying the French Connection double-pack (to get the Frankenheimer sequel, which I haven't yet watched), I might still get this steelbook (at the right price). A tenner is alright, but still a bit much when it cost me only £6 for the double-set. Strange they didn't re-release this one in an Amaray. I guess this is like Vanishing Point (i.e. a steelbook title that Fox have yet to reissue on Amaray).

Interesting. So this is actually available somewhere in Europe. I was still under the impression it remained in the US.

I've been meaning to upgrade both French Connection movies for a while and I'm thinking of getting this as well as the double-film set if I can find the latter for a decent price, as the US edition doesn't have the Poughkeepsie Shuffle documentary on it, and that's something I still watch on my DVD from time to time. It'd be a shame to lose it for the sake of saving space.

Yeah, Zavvi is where I got my French Connection steelbook from, and as steelbooks go it's quite a nice one.

That said, I've still to actually watch it, so I was slightly hesitant about categorically stating it was the remastered version. It can only be an improvement over the version Friedkin originally supervised where the colours don't stay within the lines.

I see you can pick up French Connection II separately from mainland Europe, which is tempting.
