Never read the comics so it is all new to me and I enjoyed it enough to come back for episode two.

You're the audience for the show.

That's not a bad thing, for people who have no familiarity with or interest in the comics.

And I understand changes may have to be made for live action adaptations. But in this case, they might as well have just created an entirely new show for as much as it resembles the source material.

I watched it tonight and thought it was good.
I was surprised at the level of violence that can be shown on tv now-a-days, but that doesn't bother me.
Sucks that it'll be t
wo weeks before the next one, good things can be worth waiting for, I guess.

Saw it & enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the comic series back when I used to read it. Looking forward to episode 2.

This seems to be a generic, slow moving drama with a little bit of action, a few gory moments and a tiny bit of supernatural stuff that happens to use names of characters that appeared in a comic book called "Preacher".

It has little to nothing to do with that comic book. So you won't be spoiling anything.
Saw it today and I thought this was okay. There definitely is some moments. I will continue to watch to see where it goes, but I do remember reading that Garth Ennis was 'delighted' the adaptation and fine with deviations.

BTW, Ruth Negga who plays Tulip is absolutely smokin'!!

I've never read the comics either, and I only had a basic understanding of what's happening in general... but I liked the episode and once it gets past the initial setup, it should develop more.

I watched the pilot episode. I knew absolutely nothing about it. I was a little lost. Afterwards, I had to google to find out about the show and comic that it's based on. If the series is going to be as anti-religious as I read the comic was (God seems to be a villain and gets killed in the comic), then I am OUT!

Yeah ... I think that is why so many people loved the comic series. It had no limits, and I seriously doubt that this show has any after seeing the first episode. And yes this series in general DOES NOT paint the Christian faith in a good light. But that is part of its charm. It also isn't the first comic, movie or tv show to do that either.

Garth Ennis, a self-identified atheist, frequently writes about overtly religious themes in his comic book work.

I never read the comic, though I've read a number of Ennis's other comics work (The Demon, Hitman, some of his Hellblazer run, some of his Punisher run). I'm not sure why I never read Preacher.

So anyway, I have no sense of how faithful the show is to the comic, though from what I've read of the comic, the show seems to have the gist of it right. At any rate, what it does seem to have is that same sense of gleeful dementia that characterizes Ennis's work in general (loved the bit about Tom Cruise exploding while leading a service at the Church of Scientology).

And the cast is solid. I was ambivalent about Ruth Negga in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but here she's an absolute delight.

I'm in for the duration.

And trust me ... your not alone. Why do you think this show has sit in a dormant state for over a decade. No one wants to offend ... and trust me ... this show will offend ... in more ways than one.

I think its a miracle its even happening to be honest ... and that alone is a testament to how good the comics actually were. People actually fought to make this happen, because the story is worth telling. No comic book series I have ever read have been like these.

Seems really stupid to air a premiere then bench it for a week... They wanted ratings from FTWD finale but why couldn't they just air this week? or hold off on FTWD. I'll watch the pilot this weekend sometime or closer to the launch of #2

As someone who has read (and proudly owns) the comics since the first issue came out, I really liked the first episode. It has that 'feel' from the comics and Cooper can already bring depth in his performance of Jesse, a really complicated guy.

I'm looking forward to the next episode!

Memorial Day weekend would probably kill the ratings.

That's it.

The characters' backgrounds, "origin" stories, and everything else seem to have been changed completely.

So if you were looking forward to a straightforward adaptation of the comics about the characters you knew and enjoyed, this isn't it. It's like taking Luke Skywalker, leaving him as a farmboy, but Leia and Han and Chewie are his wacky neighbors he's known forever, Obi Wan is his dead daddy who gifted him the force, and Darth Vader comes to town to do bad things and has to be stopped.
This is disturbing. I still haven't gotten a chance to watch more than 15 minutes of the episode. I love that Joe Gilgun is Cassidy as I love him in This Is England. This is one of my fav comics ever so I really hope they don't f' it up.
