Exclamation Panasonic U.S. DMR BD recorders and specs.

I know the links are for the Japanese models. But I also know that most or all of those models are coming to the US of A in the first half of 2009.

We should see BD recorders with things like 1TB hard drive, native ATSC digital tunder for HD recording and, yes, even a model with VHS!

Been wanting to upgrade my DMR100 for a while now. It is a great unit, just dated now.

For more info read the link and click away. Definately exciting news for us enthusiasts.

Hopefully, at least one of the US models will have an HDMI input. If so, I'll buy. If not, I'll wait.

One thing I am impressed by is the fact that they will support DD 5.1 recording. This is one thing I wanted in a DVD recorder, but never got in the US.

From CNET:

That's news to us. In fact, we met with Panasonic engineers recently, and when we brought up Blu-ray recorders they had no news for the U.S. market.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a BR recorder in the US market, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Who wouldn't love to see a BR recorder on the US market??? I'm sure that would make a lot of money.

Default Anybody Interested in a Blu-Ray Recorder?

I'm in Japan at the moment and saw Panasonic, Sony and Sharp Blu-Ray recorders for sale here. I'm purchasing one for myself to bring home and was wondering if I bought a few more of these would anybody be interested?

If you're interested post a reply here

Before you buy, make sure the signal that you are going to record can be accepted by the recorder you are going to buy.

I was under the impression that the Japanese BD recorders didn't work in the U.S. because their HDTV signal is fundamentally incompatible with ours so the tuners wouldn't work at all.

If I am not mistaken, the digital in Japan is transmitted on the VHF band. This is a better band as it travels easily through solid objects. Most of the US band is UHF. Which are those crappy analog fringe channels if you live the NY/NJ area. However, living where I do the local channels come in very well.

Come 2/17/09 I do believe lots of people who use digital OTA only will still be without a signal due to poor signal strength.

I hope Sony comes up with a couple of Blu-ray recorders. I need one so badly. I have over 800GB of HD recorded on hard drives (mostly golf and tennis) and I know HDD can fail so I need Blu-ray to copy all my stuff. I hope they announce something at the beginning of next year(maybe CES), I'll need another HDD for the start of next season of golf (mid-february).

Very nice but I'll buy a PS3 first then think about the Panasonic. I'll buy it if it lets me make blu-ray backup copies
