Hello!
Well, first off, I'm new to all this. I looked on these forums for a post about my HT system (which I couldn't find one) and I've gone through my manual. I'm stuck!! Here is my HT system http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...702#tabsection My Blu-Ray player is the Sony BDP-BX1 (costco's Sony 350). I have HDMI from the player to the TV and a optical audio cable from the player to the Panasonic HT system. That's it. There is sound coming from the TV itself, but NO sound coming from either 4 speakers. I tried following the manual...nothing. I tried fooling around with the audio settings....nothing. What am I missing? Do I not have the settings correct? Am I missing additional audio cables? I thought all I needed was the optical cable running from the player to the HT system? If you can offer any help, it's appreciated!! Thanks everyone! |

Audio settings on the player are set to optical, thanks!
![]() I've got the receiver set to "AUX" but still no sound out of the speakers. Any other suggestions? I'm going to go fiddle with it some more. I know this HAS to work, I'm just not "seeing" it. Thanks for the replys!! |

These are from your manual. You need to make sure your receiver's optical input is assigned. Also, your receiver will only support Dolby Digital and PCM. So make sure your Blu-ray player is set to decode everything and transfer as PCM. Do not have it set to bitstream.

Since you have a PS3(which does the HD decoding) then you don't need a big expensive receiver. However, if you want to enjoy HD sounds then you WILL need a receiver that has HDMI INPUTS and can handle PCM thru HDMI.

His player WILL decode DD and DTS core and send over optical to his receiver as PCM. His receiver is NOT capable of accepting anything other than DD or PCM. Its his only choice. |

Footloose.....will you have my babies?
![]() Thanks man...it works and well. On a side note...I know a stand alone receiver will greatly enhance my audio pleasure, but I'm coming from a 26" lcd tv with a dvd player hooked up to it for.....5 years. What I have now will last a few years, but I am saving for a nice receiver down the road. Might get some new speakers too, but I might just use the ones that came with the Panasonic. My condo is small ![]() Thanks again!! Acctingman |

Found it, I think. Looking at page 62 of the 350 owner's manual, it lists the audio output types. For optical, you will only get 2-channel LPCM for all audio formats if you set the player to PCM. If you set it to bitstream, you will at least get 5.1 Dolby Digital. You're still out of luck with DTS, and will have to set it to downmix PCM on page 45. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/BDPS350_US.pdf Based on this, you should set the player to bitstream, set Dolby Digital to Dolby Digital (p.44) and DTS to Downmix PCM (p.44). Does that make sense? |

He can set the player to bitstream Dolby Digital but thats about it. He stills doesn't gain anything because I'm pretty sure his receiver will still only accept 2 channel sources. So bitstreaming 5.1 to his receiver won't help.

Agreed
![]() Sounds like he's in a bit of a crunch like most of America though. Wish I had the money for a new S350. ![]() Wish I could find somebody who would like to trade lol. I do have 7.1 analog outs for anybody not having a receiver capable of HMDI ;-) |
