We all have our favorite films, writers and directors.
I thought it would be fun to play Dr. Frankenstein and mash-up several different filmmakers to create the "Perfect Filmmaker". Minimum requirement is that you mention at least 3 different Directors (living or dead). Also, you must include what aspect of their filmmaking you are using to make the "Perfect Filmmaker". I'll start us off. To begin I would use the smart and unique dialogue of David Mamet. For visual style I would use David Fincher for his distinct visual vision. Then I would mix in some Hitchcock to create the suspense of course. Wes Anderson's set design and ideas would be used as well. Paul Thomas Anderson would bring montages and voiceovers along with driving the overall story. PTA would also be in charge of selecting the composer and driving the music. I would then use the Coen Bros. for their quirky characters and unique form of comedy and crime depiction. Last, I would use Stanley Kubrick's meticulous vision to oversee the whole project. Who is next? |

My perfect filmmaker would include:
The storytelling of Christopher Nolan (exposition excluded). The pacing of JJ Abrams. The sharp scriptwriting skills of Quentin Tarantino. The action of James Cameron. The suspense and timing of Alfred Hitchcock. The camerawork and cinematography of Ron Fricke. The editing of Sergei Eisenstein. Optional components: The slow-motion effects of Zack Snyder. The sense of fun from Robert Rodriguez. The hyperbole of Paul Verhoeven. The gore of Stuart Gordon. |

The vision of Kubrick.
The balls of Peckinpah. The creativity of Tarantino. The dialogue skills of Billy Wilder. The prolificness of late 80's/90's Oliver Stone. The sense of humor of Paul Thomas Anderson. The carefree nature of David Lynch. The trust of Ron Howard (I read he's a nice guy). And maybe the budget of James Cameron so we could get 2-3 films out of the cost of one. |

The sleaze of John Waters.
The visual stylings and camerawork of classic Dario Argento. The unyielding desire to break the medium of Jean-luc Godard. The teenage angst of John Hughes. The blessed ear for dialogue of Kevin Smith. |
