Default 4K TV buyers

Have you guys upgraded to 4K displays done it on the back of still having perfectly functional 1080p displays? or have you bought your 4K UHD TVs because your 1080p screens were on their way out?

I bought a UHD set because I wanted one. My 1080p set is still working fine.

I bought a 4K back in 2013 because of what I thought at the time was superior 3D performance, the 4K bit was just a side concern.

My 1080p set was almost 9 years old when I got my 4K set. It still works fine, but it is an older heavy 42" 60hz Sharp LCD. Plus I made a deal with my wife to get rid of the 135" projector screen and projector that was in the living room, so I could get a new UHDTV. I picked up a Vizio P Series 55" 2014 model.

I needed a new TV for the living room after I moved a year ago (40 inches wasn't gonna cut it), so I figured I might as well go 4k, they were affordable.
