Default Dead Ringers (1988) (Collector's Edition)

Quote:
Cronenberg’s haunting tale of twin gynecologists and the woman they both love will make its Blu-ray debut November 15th, 2016 from Scream Factory, in conjunction with Morgan Creek Productions. The two-disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray of Dead Ringers comes loaded with bonus features, with over three hours of new bonus content including new audio commentary from author William Beard and new interviews with actress Heidi Von Palleske, Stephen Lack, special effects artist Gordon Smith and director of photography Peter Suschitzky. Fans can pre-order their copies by visiting ShoutFactory.com

Claire Niveau (Geneviève Bujold) is in love with handsome Beverly. Or does she love Elliot? It's uncertain because brothers Beverly and Elliot Mantle are identical twins sharing the same medical practice, apartment and women – including unsuspecting Claire.
In a role that won the New York Film Critics Circle Best Actor Award, Jeremy Irons plays twin gynecologists whose emotional dependency collapses into mind games, madness and murder. Cronenberg won the Los Angeles Film Critics Awards Best Director honors for melding split-screen techniques, body doubles and Iron's uncanny acting into an eerie, fact-based tale.

Dead Ringers Bonus Features

DISC 1 (1.78:1 version)

NEW Audio Commentary with writer William Beard, author of The Artist As Monster: The Cinema of David Cronenberg
Audio Commentary with actor Jeremy Irons

DISC 2

NEW 2K scan at the director’s preferred aspect ratio (1.66:1)
NEW Carey’s Story – an interviews with Heidi Von Palleske (19 minutes)

[Show spoiler]Ask and you shall receive. Well, I asked an actor Stephen Lack (Scanners, Dead Ringers, etc.) via his official FB account if there are plans for a Blu-ray release of Dead Ringers, and he told me that he did an interview for an upcoming Scream Factory release of it a few months ago. Michael Felsher conducted an interview. Release date is TBA.

This is awesome news. I'm sure this was something Scream was planning on announcing at the Comic Con in July. Can't wait to get all the details for this one.

Anyone who owns the dvd now better sell it while the value is through the roof. I feel overwhelmed by the amount of great titles being released lately!

I've got the old non Criterion release of this. Just checked eBay and copies don't seem to be going for that much. $30 for the Criterions and $15 to $20 for the regular. It's good for an old DVD, but nothing outrageous.

Hopefully Scream will be able to liscense all the previous commentaries and bonus features as well as produce some good new stuff.

The DVD is valuable???? I got it for pretty cheap recently. It wasn't the Criterion version though, so maybe it's one of those situations where only the Criterion is? I'll have to sell it if it's worth much of anything.

EDIT: This is awesome news, obviously. Glad to see Scream Factory moving in the direction of classier stuff. There's still a fair amount of unreleased Cronenberg stuff out there.

No, that's with WB, and they don't license.

Woo hoo! I haven't seen Dead Ringers since I was in high school during the late 1980s, so I'm due for a revisit.

It's running about $35 used and $100 new on amazon used currently. I'm talking about the regular WB dvd, not the criterion one. I haven't checked its value on Amazon recently.

Ouch, that would be some heavy stuff for a high schooler. Did you appreciate it at all?

Great news but does this mean Warner is now licensing to Scream?

No. I believe Warner Bros lost the rights to all Morgan Creek titles and Scream must have snatched up a few of them.

Amazon prices are usually way inflated when it comes to things like this. Checking the complete listings on eBay is a much better way to judge current market value of OOP items.

Great news, fantastic film. I dread the tacky artwork they'll slap on it if it's a collector's edition, but oh well.

Good question. If so, it could really mean the opening of the floodgates with genre titles that have been requested for several years now. It would leave only Lionsgate as the impenetrable fortress of fail.

Hrm. I might as well sell it off, then. I'm going to be buying this for sure and since it's the Warner version I can't imagine the special features not being carried over.
