I worked as a production assistant on Without Limits, the Steve Prefontaine movie.
Also Animal House filmed in my hometown...drive by the frat house all the time. And the diner scene from Five Easy Pieces was filmed at a Denny's about five minutes from my house. Also living in New York for a while and traveling around Europe back in the day, I know that there are many places from famous films that I've seen in person. |

When I was in Japan, I coughed up the cash necessary to get into the bar that Bill Murray & Scarlet Johansson filmed their meeting scene in for Lost In Translation. There was a $40 cover and 1 drink minimum. Since the very seat that Bill was sitting in for the shoot was empty, and since I was already spending some cash anyhow, I figured that I might as well also order a Santori whiskey and go full fan in the situation. The Whiskey was about $60, but it was worth it to sit in the very spot Bill Murray did.
![]() My wife took pictures, but I think they may have been lost in a hard drive crash a couple of years back. They may still be on her camera too, but we haven't used it in YEARS and don't even know where we stored it. ![]() |

The most recent for me was late last year at the "Palmer household" for the third season of Twin Peaks which airs next year as they did a night shoot featuring Cooper and Laura (assuming Sheryl Lee is playing Laura which it seemed she was).
Before that was the "Field of Dreams", waited 25 years to go there, mainly due to a big fear of flying which I slowly worked on getting over. Was quite lucky while I was there with my folks, to be invited into the actual house by the former owner who was there, something he said that only about half a dozen "fans" have ever done since they filmed back in the late 80's. He lived there with his wife and only made special accommodations he said in the past for fans to come in. Since it's my favorite film, it meant a great deal going inside and seeing where they filmed certain scenes, and hearing some history about the interiors. Also the home Tom Hanks lives in "Sleepless in Seattle" as it's a real home along the Seattle waterfront. The cemetery shoot out scene in the Stallone film "Assassins" along with the taxi scene under the viaduct in downtown Seattle. Some other Twin Peaks locations from the show and the film, Rosario State Park at Deception Pass in Washington State where they filmed the ending scene of the Costner film "The Postman", also was able to meet him before the film wrapped that day, super nice guy. I am probably forgetting some other locations too. Great thread too OP. |

I live in NYC so I'm always around "famous" movie sets. The only one I went out of my way to visit was Pennsylvania for the anniversary of Peter Weir's Witness with Harrison Ford.

I was an extra in Public Enemies (2009).
![]() That's me to the right (as you're facing the picture) of Ed Bruce (guy with mustache) who co-starred with James Garner in the short-lived Maverick revival show, Bret Maverick (1981-82). It was kind of funny that all the extras had to be clean shaven because it was the "custom of the time." Then Mr Bruce came in with the big mustache. The scene was filmed in the Wisconsin Supreme Court room in the State Capitol in Madison. Last edited by movielib; 06-23-2016 at 10:14 PM. |

I have been to lots of places in New Mexico where movies (and tv shows) have been filmed.
I drive by the dam that is in Breaking Bad as well as one shot in Terminator Salvation on my way to work. (I caught them setting up for some Better Call Saul filming a couple of months ago.) BCS 2016-05-02.jpg My kids will go to Eldorado High School which is the location they used for Walter White's school. I have had my car washed at Walter Whites Car Wash (which used to be an Octopus but is now a Mister Car Wash. octopus-car-wash-27894.jpg Albuquerque's airport has been used in a few movies like Outrageous Fortune and more recently The Avengers and We're the Millers. I have been to the Rail Yards in Albuquerque which is where the Hulk landed after falling from the Helicarrier in the Avengers. The location was also used in Crash, MacGruber, and Terminator Salvation. Rail Yards.jpg I have ridden the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad which was used in the opening scenes of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. I almost forgot about one of my favorite Albuquerque movies. There are several locations in Sunshine Cleaning that I have been to like Buffett's Candies, Hinkle Family Fun Center (Birthday party scene) And Charlie's Sporting Goods which was the location for the opening suicide scene. Charlies Sporting Goods.jpg I have also been to many other locations throughout New Mexico like Taos, Santa Fe, Tent Rocks, Las Vegas (New Mexico), White Sands, The Valles Caldera and The Very Large Array all of which have been in many films like Easy Rider, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, No Country for Old Men, The Lone Ranger, Young Guns, The Missing, Natural Born Killers, 2010, Contact and many more. Very Large Array.JPG Outside of New Mexico, I was at Navarre Beach in Florida when they were filming the beach scenes for Jaws 2. My family was on vacation there. Some people actually came down the beach and asked my parents if we would like to be extras in the movie. (I think they said it paid around 70 bucks a day). My parents said no so we just got to sit and watch from a ways off. It was a lot of people getting in the water and then running out from what I remember. I have also been to Las Vegas and been all over the strip where lots of things have been filmed. We stood in the same spot as the cast of Ocean's Eleven (2001) and watched the fountains at the Bellagio. Cool thread. Last edited by donzo29; 06-28-2016 at 08:53 PM. |

When I lived in CT, I used to eat in the Sunrise Chinese restaurant on a semi-regular basis. Clearly visible in the opening shots of Steve Niles' Remains, which was partially filmed in downtown Norwich.

Well living in NYC for 12 years, I saw my fair of movies being filmed. It's fun the first few times you see. Then it gets old, and more of an inconvenience than anything. Also there are a lot of TV shows that are filmed there. Like Law & Order had a lot fo outdoor scenes. As well as many talk shows like Letterman that often did a lot of stunts outdoors. And they have the big New Years Eve celebration in Times Square.

If there is one movie set I would've like to have visited, it was where they were filming The Flintstones. They literally took a dessert, and turned into the entire town of bedrock. God I would've loved to have been there to see it. That would never happen today, since the movie would be all green screen.
