onkyo 805 and ps3 - Blu-ray Forum

thinking about ditching my sony s300 bd player and going with the ps3 which seems to make the most sense. if anyone has this setup can you let me know if i will see the dolby true hd and dts master light on the receiver with the ps3? i know the ps3 goes through pcm, I think. also, do any remotes work with the ps3? i have a harmony 890 remote and i have heard the ps3 does not work with it but that was a while back.

No, you won't get any of those lights on your receiver. The PS3 does all of the decoding and sends it in PCM to the receiver. You have to get a USB adapter for the Harmony to work with the PS3 and even then you won't be able to use the power functions with that remote.

Like the other guy said. The PS3 handles(decodes) ALL of the audio itself. So, your receiver will only say PCM and nothing else. No fear, You will still get the HD audio. However, if you want the receiver to do the decoding then you'll have to look into the Sony S350 or S550 OR Pansonic BD35 or BD55.

i have a ps3 and a 605 and have no problems with the internal decoding

ok cool, yeah the sony 550 seems like a good deal now they have dropped the price..... thanks for all the advice!!!
