Default Good Bye Circuit City

http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/20/c...id-bankruptcy/

looks like the end if nigh for CC! at least 150 stores will be closing down in order to avoid bankruptcy! Shares are worth just .40 cents right now!

Wow, that is funny.

How they could just ride on those crappy stores, with crappy service for so long and not have to do this is amazing.

I remember, it cost me $150 to fix a window actuator on my car that their installer broke...TWICE. I called in to complain and they said I was given a $25 gift certificate during the 9 hour install and that they considered it a closed matter.

So, I contacted the BBB and of course they did nothing, and so I called the Attorney General of Nevada and in two weeks I had my $150 and the manager was gone...

I hope the whole chain goes under. they are bad for consumers.

You can see it in their stores, they are just not clean looking and run down for the most part. I will need to call in and cash in on some reward points from my credit card before they go in the tank.

i have not shopped in a CC in a long long time! As much as i do not like best buy, i hate CC even more after they screwed me over with a car stereo installation! (seems like some of us have had those same experiences)

of course though this is not a good thing. I hate people to lose jobs, that really sucks and i will feel for them, but it will also create more of a monopoly for the likes of best buy!

Circuit City is OK but I prefer BB and Amazon.com. "We are all gathered here today to mourn the passing of Circuit City."

So true. In an economy like ours (crappy) the last thing we need is more unemployed folks. i just found a job after 5 months of unemployment, and I have a college degree. I am relieved that I am working but I have many friends that are not so fortunate.
As for BB, I doubt this will mean lower prices for anything.

This was a long time coming. They dodged the bullet a few years ago (they were in the same situation but somehow they got out of it). Guess I'll be canceling my Circuit City rewards card as soon (mine doesn't have a Mastercard nor visa logo on it).

Anecdotal- the one by me is very clean and well-staffed. I like to browse in there but due to their pricing vs. online, I rarely purchase from them.

It's too bad, really. Less competition is a bad thing. Hopefully though I can snag some good deals!

Yup. They just decided to admit it during a "financial crisis" time. Again, it's all about timing

It's a step in that direction. They've brought it on themselves.

I'm surprised to see so many haters in here, I guess I never really had much hate for them because I avoided them anyways.

Do they have a longer term plan other than cut stores and lay off employees?
