Upscailing

Hi,

I have seen a lot of people talking about upscailing, this sounds greate as i dont want to have to buy all my fave box sets again,

so my question is?

1, do all players upscale

2, do some do it better than others, what should I look for???

I've heard/seen the PS3 has a really good upscaler. As for everything can't really help, but I would assumed most new players have upscale capability. I mean, i bought a 50$ DVD player for my mom that upscaled to 1080p and looked great.

i would just buy a cheap hd dvd player....its not like toshiba gets money from it now

Not all dvd players upscale dvd content to higher resolutions but so far every standalone BD player and the PS3 have upscaled standard definition content to HD resolutions. Even a great upscaler can only make dvd content look marginally better. It definitely doesn't make it look as good as a real Blu-ray for instance. And yes the upscaling quality can vary between players depending on what chip they use. Some BD players are excellent upscalers (look for any player that uses the Reon or Realta chip for the best quality) and some are poor upscalers (some of the older standalone players are mediocre at best).
