I bet this film would look good in 3D. Probably similar to Jurassic World.

It better. Jurassic World had great depth.

This looks promising. Just hoping this familiar story doesn't retread too much of Peter Jackson's King Kong, so we get something new to experience. I hope they don't capture King Kong in other words.

It would be more instructive to compare the 3-D for this film to that of Godzilla than Jurassic World, unfortunately.

This movie is essentially the prequel to a planned King Kong vs Godzilla remake.

As such, anything that takes place in this movie is presumably in the same universe as 2014's Godzilla. I don't expect this Kong to be hauled to 1970s New York to be put on display and then runamuck.

Thanks for the info. Cool to hear Godzilla will be showing up to battle King Kong. I'm one of the few who enjoys the 3D in Godzilla 2014. It's mostly medium but has nice layering in general. Especially indoors behind glass. Those shots look like stronger 3D.

With a creature the immense size of Godzilla, you wouldn't get a strong stereoscopic effect. It's like looking at a mountain. My own preference would've been to take artistic license and go for an exaggerated sense of dimension, but scale was important to them so I can understand why they made the choices they did.

I like that that they went with a period setting. Has all the trappings and feel of a Vietnam war movie. I've no idea what they'll do with this one. They've said it won't be the typical beauty killed the beast angle. I don't expect Godzilla to show up this time, but they might throw in some material to link the two movies.

Yes, the era the film takes place should add to the atmosphere of the film.
I wonder if Kong will be friendly as in the Peter Jackson King Kong, or a ruthless monster stomping everything. Godzilla is actually considered a good guy in Godzilla 2014, so it'll be interesting to see if King Kong is evil, neutral or good vs good.

The giant scale in Pacific Rim's 3D worked really well during the action scenes. If this can match that, we'll be in good shape for the 3D.

The visuals in this trailer look cool but Kong is too big, I know the only reason he is that big is for the crossover movie but I don't care, he's too big, Kong is not that big.

Also where are all the other creatures on Skull Island? I will have very little interest in this if Kong is the only creature.

PJ's King Kong is one of my favourite movies so this has a high bar to pass for me to accept it lol.

Honestly given the huge number of conversion issues in Jurassic World i'd prefer 3d like in Godzilla which was far more competent and complete.

That movie really delivered. If I had a criticism of 2005 Kong it was that it over-delivered. 10 years later and it's still mindboggling the things they achieved. It's too bad it arrived before the modern era of 3-D had become more widespread.

Kong was always too big to begin with. Just ask any biologist about island dwarfism. But watching this trailer, I think they sold it. My brain knows it doesn't make any sense, but I can accept that reality as they're presenting it and I'm more than willing to suspend disbelief.

I agree with you about 2005 Kong, it's still a bigger movie than most stuff out these days and the sense of awe and spectacle is second to none. I will be amazed if this one comes close but the size of Kong is really putting me off.

The 1933 version will never be topped for it was the first. Peter Jackson did the right thing by making his a tribute to that film.

Do hope this Kong is completely scary. Though we all had sympathy for the beast, the one thing the original 1933 had going for it was Kong being a complete wild animal and not one exhibiting human characteristics of a thought process with complex emotions (the affection for Fay Wray remained simplistic and was not deep in friendship as later versions made it).

And size does matter. Most of the time we saw the original Kong not from the waste up, or his legs only but rather in his entirety and in perfect proportion in regards to being cropped into the screen with his human counterparts. Made the scenes more exciting because all the elements were fitting into play.

And because stop motion animation required so much work in so little time, emphasis was left on imagination to make the finished product look as frightening as possible, not the creation of the most spectacular special affects achievable with computer graphics.

This new entry appears to be a different spin on the Kong saga, as was to a certain extent the 1976 version which dealt with looking for a new supply of oil. Just hope the special effects does not lack the simple virtues of imagination but embraces them. Something today's monster movies do lack.
