So....
What do you guys do with your DVD version of films when they are released on Blu-Ray? I have been selling mine on eBay to recoupe some of the cost. Bought Sweeney Todd for BLu for $24.99, sold my 2 disc copy for $14.85 on eBay. It helps. |

for the most part, in my humble experience, there's no market for standard def DVD's when there are racks and bins of them for $5 @ wal-mart. I keep mine, but it's very rare that I double dip or even buy one at all (standard or blu).

I don't care to sell my stuff, so once they've come out on Blu-Ray, I just store them away. A lot of my other DVD's, I've ripped to my Apple TV and/or iPod.

Currently mine go up on Amazon, to try and get back some of the money spent on Blu.
Might give ebay a go though selling them in little mini collections. |

Since a majority of my dvd collection (300+ at one time) was horror movies that the average person has never heard of, I just dumped them on ebay as a lot and ended up with around 1,000$. I obviously lost out on quite a bit of money, but that much money at once while clearing up space on the shelves was worth it.

I usually just sell them at one of my local used DVD shops. Usually if one store is overstocked and won't buy a title, I'll be able to find another one that will.
I've actually been trying to sell my somewhat valuable out-of-print DVDs in anticipation of them being released on Blu to get a little more for them now. For example, I just sold my used two-disc special edition versions of Batman (1989), Batman Returns, and Batman Forever on Amazon for almost double what I paid for them brand new from Wal-Mart. If I get an itch to watch them before I'm able to pick them up on Blu, I'll just borrow them from my local library. I'll probably do the same with my Disney movies currently in the vault a little while before they're released to Blu..... Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, etc. Those suckers pull down some coin nowadays! Last edited by BurningFire333; 10-22-2008 at 09:02 PM. |

If i don't keep them and skip the Blu-ray, then I either sell them or give them away to friends. Usually I do it as part of a prize for a contest at a party...
Like a Halloween costume party... Last year I held a movies themed party and it was a big hit. This year it will be smaller, and it will have a sci-fi theme. Still got DVDs left to give out. |
