Similar to the situation with When a Stranger Calls (2006), Mill Creek will be releasing two movies new to BD in a comedy 4-pack. The first is the 2007 comedy The Brothers Solomon . I'm not familiar with the movie, but it stars Will Arnett, who's pretty great in everything, and is directed by Bob Odenkirk, aka Saul Goodman. The second is Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach (2009), starring Sean William Scott.

Tastes will differ on these types of comedies of course but I think if one likes Will Arnett and Will Forte they would enjoy Brothers Solomon. I wasn't expecting much when I first saw it -- if it wasn't straight to video it was pretty damn close -- but it had a good amount of laughs.

I always found it annoying when Mill Creek gives a movie its blu-ray debut by just cramming it together with some other throwaway movies in a cheap blu-ray set. Would have at least wanted Wind Chill and When a Stranger Calls on their own separate disc.

For those wondering, I got this release today. Here are some quick facts.
I'm currently watching The Brother's Solomon but I'd assume the following is true for all 4 films. - The movies come on two discs. Disc 1 has Walk Hard and TBS, Disc 2 has Fired Up and Balls Out. - There are zero special features, there isn't even a pop-up menu. You just select which movie and it starts playing. - Picture is decent, print is extremely clean but it's taken from an old DVD era master, some EE used but not overdone. Colors are just a tad muted. I'm guessing this site would rate is a 3/5, maybe 3.5 - Audio is a major disappointment. Only lossy DD and it sounds terrible. Would get a 1.5 or 2/5 But hey, for $5 it's still a great deal, especially if you've been waiting for The Brother's Solomon to finally hit blu. |
