Yeah it's quite close to Close Encounters (my favourite Spielberg) as well as Carpenter's Starman. I'd recommend watching some of Jeff Nichols' previous films too if you haven't - namely Mud and Take Shelter - to gauge the kind of tone he's going for. It's not a straight-up Spielberg copy, but something more nuanced and stripped-back.

I was a bit disappointed with this. It's okay, but it is what it is. There's not that much to it (and it rips off Firestarter pretty blatantly).

Feels so odd this is a Warner Bros film but had distribution acquired by eOne very early on (in 2013). Are there any comparable examples to this happening for a title for a particular territory?
https://www.screendaily.com/news/eon...057030.article I know it happened with some Disney titles like Duets, Summer of Sam in the early 2000s. Or Paramount Classics releases like Northfork, The Machinist, Mean Creek ending up with Metrodome, Tartan. Or ITV titles like The Shawshank Redemption. Thirteen is copyrighted to Fox Searchlight on the back cover, but released through Universal/Working Title. Or Rush going to StudioCanal through Working Title, rather than Universal. I guess as ever rights for different territories are very messy indeed. Last edited by CelestialAgent; 10-27-2020 at 12:46 AM. |

Well I can think of the opposite. Creed being MGM but distributed by WB in the UK. I'm also no expect, but I think it's common for various production companies to get involved with "low budget"non tentpole movies so when it comes to releasing the film they can pre sell to different territories to ensure they break even before the film even hits the theatres. |

However eOne has had several distribution agreements in the past with studios e.g. DreamWorks, Summit. Another example of what I’m talking about is In the Valley of Elah - Warner Independent Pictures, but released in the UK through Optimum. |
