Russia Elem Klimov's Come And See is out on BluRay

Elem Klimov's masterpiece has been released in Japan.

Really good news, it should get a release in other parts of the world soon.

Hope this will be made available with english subtitles soon as in case with Stalker. Brightness level is too high ;not sure if this will get a proper restoration anytime soon so have to use my DVD to mux eng subtitle when I pick this up . Checked the Mosfilm Youtube channel and all I can see is a 480p version.

If any label picks this up for a restoration project through kickstarter program ,I'd be very happy to support it.

A guy (Elem Klimov's son) on the Steve Hoffman Forums http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/thread...stival.695525/.
Quote:
My father's restored 1985 classic Come and See won the Venice Classics program. The new restored copy was a smashing success with the audience and considering the great competition from the works of people like Antonioni, Forman, Spielberg and Godard it's truly great news.
The lucky people at the Venice Film Festival could see it on the big screen. Wish I was one of them.

Apparently, BD is out on Russia

Looks the same PQ as the japanese reviewed on capsaholic.

Mosfilm's brand new restoration of Elem Klimov's war drama Come and See (1985) has won the Best Restored Film Award at Venice Classics. The restoration was overseen by Karen Shakhnazarov.

Currently, no preliminary plans have been made public for an upcoming North American Blu-ray release of the new restoration.

I was lucky enough to see this in the cinema on its initial release - unforgettable. I really hope someone like Criterion brings this out!

Man, so what are the chances this will ever get a North American or UK release? Criterion would be ideal but at this point I'd be happy with any decent bluray edition of it. I thought I read in the Criterion thread that it being on Filmstruck doesn't really mean anything in regards to a possible future release.

Sorry for old bump, does the JP blu ray have english subs? Would really like to see this movie as I never have before but would do me no good if there's no english subs.

Mosfilm uploaded the entire film to Youtube (no subs). Quality-wise it's somewhere between Filmstruck (which is pretty bad) and the JP BD. It should be noted that the JP BD has a horrible jello effect though.

Judging by every IVC release I've seen it looks like they do absolutely no work on the scans they get, which leads to flat colors and weird anomalies like the warp-stabilizer effect in Come and See.

Japanese Blu Ray is crap when the capsaholic stills are true. Looks like SD not HD.

Is this ever going to come to Blu Ray with English subs? It's the greatest war film ever made.

There's a Mosfilm 1080p web-dl of the new restoration, basically the one on youtube without youtube's horrible compression, and it looks gorgeous.

Obviously can't link to it without breaking the sites rules, but it's not too hard to find and if there's interest I can post screenshots.

I agree. While I can read French and speak conversantly in it I do not have the required speed to match those of the subtitles. My Russian is practically non existent as it is an extremely hard language to get a grip on.

Please for the love of God bring this along with The Cranes Are Flying (Letat Zhuravli) to the UK with English subtitles Potemkine.

I'm half thinking the BFI will be the first English language release of it on Blu-ray.
