Finally got around to watching the Blu-ray. I've seen this film many times. Saw it twice in the theater, had the laserdisc, had both DVD releases. Every time, it has always ended with The Rolling Stones' Sympathy for the Devil. This time it ended with Guns and Roses doing a cover version.
I watched the credits and where it would normally be listed, it's missing. After all previous credits are gone a new screen listing the performance pops up. To make absolutely sure I was not remembering wrong, I looked up the soundtrack CD's song listings and sure enough only the Jagger original is on there. I'm assuming The Rolling Stones were getting too costly so they substituted to save money. The GNR version isn't bad at all, I am just more or less against films being changed after they are released, especially if it's for some unartistic reason such as saving money. Anyway, just passing this along. It shouldn't be a deal-breaker, the film is still as good as it ever was. The ending feels a little more punk-rock than classic rock as it did before so it changes the tone slightly. Considering the next book/film in the franchise it may even be a more appropriate note to end on. Last edited by fettastic; 10-26-2008 at 03:05 PM. |

The first time I saw this was on HBO or Cinemax, well after it had been released. It had the Gn'R cover on it then, because I downloaded it. But your right, that sort of thing bothers me also. On a related note, I guess this is why we'll never see a Wonder Years release with the soundtrack intact. Could you imagine trying to organize all those royalties?

"Amazon.com Elliot Goldenthal's score perfectly captures the mood of the film, from the opening notes of "Libera Me" to the reprise of "Born to Darkness" at the end. He builds on a few basic themes, adding excitement to the mix with the high-intensity "Louis' Revenge" and "Claudia's Allegro Agitato." As some of the track titles suggest, Goldenthal uses classical themes and techniques to compose his music, which works nicely. So well, in fact, that the Guns n Roses' rendition of "Sympathy for the Devil," appropriate as it was in the film, sounds like an afterthought here. The soundtrack is a little too repetitive to hold up well to repeated listens, but it's a fine effort overall, and one that holds true both to the film and to the Anne Rice novel on which it was based. Hmm I don't know how I never noticed that it was Guns and Roses covering this in all the times watching this movie...
"American hard rock group Guns N' Roses recorded a cover in 1994 which featured in the closing credits of Neil Jordan's film adaptation of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire and was a bonus track on their Greatest Hits album. This cover is notable for causing an incident within the group that was partially responsible for guitarist Slash departing from the band in 1996. The incident was when Paul Tobias, a friend of Axl Rose, recorded a guitar over Slash's guitar without his consent. Slash later stated that this was one incident that prompted him to leave the band. He has described the Guns N' Roses version of the song as 'the sound of a band breaking up'."-WIKI |
